TO: ALL VFA MEMBERS IN GOOD STANDING
FROM: JACQUI CEBALLOS, PRESIDENT and MURIEL FOX, CHAIR OF THE BOARD
April 15, 2010
At its March 20, 2010 Board Meeting in Dallas, the VFA board made an historic decision. In summary:
ANY feminist activist would be able to join VFA without a time requirement as to when her (or his) activism took place.
Officers and directors of VFA (as opposed to VFA members) must have worked in the movement at least 20 years Those who worked in the movement before 1975 will be described as Pioneers, with no special privileges or responsibilities
These changes entail an amendment to VFA Bylaws. The full board has voted approval of this amendment. The next step for a Bylaws amendment requires a 2/3 vote from all paid-up members.
PLEASE EMAIL YOUR VOTE ASAP TO VFA SECRETARY VIRGINIA WATKINS,

The VFA board of directors thanks you in advance for your prompt email vote on this important amendment.
Regards to all, Muriel and Jacqui Dear members: For the past two or so years "younger" pioneer feminists have become very interested in VFA's future. While they want VFA to continue as long as there is a movement, they want it open to all feminists who are "veterans," no matter how long they've served. They also want younger women to be part of VFA. Five of these "younger" members have organized events in Boston, Los Angeles, Stockton, CA, Pompano Beach, CA and Dallas. Because of their work for and dedication to VFA we elected them to the board a few months ago. Four were present at our meeting in Dallas on March 20 -- Sally Lunt, Beverly McCarthy, Zoe Nicholson and Bonnie Wheeler, where we formally discussed this and wrote the amendment. It was felt that control of VFA's policies should still reside with longtime feminists; so we inserted a provision saying that officers and directors must have worked in the movement at least 20 years The entire board, including those not present in Dallas, voted overwhelmingly to accept it. I urge you to add your voices pro or con.
Thanks ! Jacqui
PS.. Eleanor Pam is the 5th new board member. Eleanor, with Barbara Love, organized an incredible event in South Florida in Spring of 2009. She was unable to attend the Dallas event. |
