Veteran Feminists of America

GREETINGS AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING

FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF
VETERAN FEMINISTS OF AMERICA
 NOVEMBER 2009

Thanks to YOU, Veteran Feminists of America is actively doing the job you had in mind when you joined us. And we hope you'll be willing now to help keep VFA alive by paying your 2010 dues at this time. (If you're not a member, but are a veteran feminist, you are one of us. Please  join VFA officially. If you are a younger feminist and appreciate the work we do, we'd love to have you join us a "Friend.")

Board members of VFA are signing this letter together because we're all committed to helping you tell the world what feminism has accomplished - and why the ideals of feminism are needed today more than ever.

VFA always sends out this dues notice in late autumn in order to avoid the crush of Holiday mailings. Also, we really need your money to keep VFA functioning.

VFA continues to be the main source of information for scholars, journalists, activists, politicians and community leaders who want to know about the successes and struggles of our modern Women's Movement. We work particularly hard to tell this story to young people, so they'll be motivated to carry on our work. Now that we are archived in the Sally Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture at Duke University, we'll be especially useful to educators and students.

VFA has big plans for the coming years. On March 19, 2010 in Dallas at our "Beyond Borders" conference, trail blazing feminists such as Gloria Steinem, Vivian Castleberry, Virginia Whitehill, Maura McNiel and others will help us exchange new ideas on how to expand women's rights at home and abroad.

We're also working on a March, 2011 event in New York City where pioneer feminist artists and younger feminist artists will join for an inspiring conference and art show.

This past year we continued holding regional reunions (more than 40 thus far) with deeply moving award ceremonies honoring pioneer activists in Florida, northern California and Arizona.

And we're still aglow over our Salute to Feminist Lawyers where our honoree speakers included Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Roe v Wade attorney Sarah Weddington, and other winners of historic lawsuits. (pictured: Jacqui Ceballos, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Carole de Saram, Muriel Fox)

Editor Barbara Love is now updating her database from VFA's book, Feminists Who Changed America 1963-1975, which documents the work of 2,200 feminists of the Second Wave.  And we hope to add stories of activists from the 1980s and 1990s.

VFA also performs many services for its members, such as promoting members' books and projects, putting people in touch with others who can help them, and providing useful information on feminist events.

We thank you for sending VFA the 2010 Dues to continue its unique work. As you know,
YOUR PAYMENT IS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.

In Grateful Sisterhood,

The Board of Directors of
Veteran Feminists of America
