12 Weeks of Christmas - Week 4

Greetings!

Each week until December 25, subscribers to my newsletter will receive the basic instructions for making a special card, small gift, or other handcrafted item for the holidays.  We are now on Week 4, which is the final project for a holiday card.

With each newsletter also comes the opportunity to purchase a full kit for making the project.  Alternatively, you have the option of purchasing pieces of each kit, if, for example, you already have the stamp set, and only want to purchase the supplies and pre-cut cardstock.  AND, if you have good intentions, but there simply are not enough hours in the day, you'll also have the choice to buy the finished product.

Since so many of you love to send family photos at this time of year, this week's project is for a photo card, titled simply:  "'Noel".   It uses the graphic stamp set "Big on Christmas", which includes two other fun images that would also work for this particular card.

Keep creating!

P.S. It's not too late to purchase the projects from Weeks 1-3!!  Scroll down to the bottom of this newsletter for the info.
"Noel" Photo Card Instructions

Noel Photo Card

(For those of you wondering, this is NOT me and my family!  Although I do have two lovely, black Standard Poodles!)

This is a single panel card, with no fold.  It is large enough to accommodate a photo that is 3-1/2" X 5", and can be used equally well for either a horizontal or vertical photo image.  You can sign your family's names on the back of the card.

The stamp set used for this particular card is "Big On Christmas". This is a fun set of graphic images that includes, in addition to "Noel",  "Happy Holidays" and "Let it Snow" with fun images of an ornament, a tree, or a snowman to complement the words.  The images can be left as an outline, using Stampin' Write Markers and the direct to rubber technique (see below), or you can stamp them using StazOn black ink, and color in the letters on the cardstock.  Either way, it's a versatile set and you can substitute any one of the three images for this card as they are all the same size.

The base of the card is a 9-1/4" X 4" piece of Wild Wasabi Cardstock.  You will also need a piece of Certainly Celery cardstock cut 3-1/2" X 3-1/2", and a second piece of Wild Wasabi cut to 2-3/8" X 3-1/2".

Get out your Real Red and Glorious Green Stampin' Write Markers.  Using the Direct to Rubber Technique, color the letters right on the rubber with the Real Red, and color the ornament with Glorious Green.  To make sure the ink is still uniformly moist before your stamp, hold the inked-side up close to you mouth and "huff"- it's sort of like blowing out a candle without pursing your lips.  The moisture of your breath is enough to re-wet the ink just the right amount for stamping.  Once you've huffed, stamp the image on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and trim it to 1-7/8" X 3-1/2".  Use the Real Red to highlight the stripes and the cap on the ornament, and use the Glorious Green to fill in the top and bottom halves of the ornament.

Mount the image using SNAIL adhesive to the small piece of Wild Wasabi, making sure the left and right edges are flush, and that it is centered top-to-bottom.  Now find your Signo White Gel pen, and, if desired, the "Dots" Classy Brass Template.  You are going to make a line of white dots on the Wild Wasabi in the margins above and below your image.  If you want the dots to be perfectly round and perfectly aligned, I recommend using the brass stencil.  If you are comfortable free-handing it without the stencil, I say "Go for it!" because it will look just fine.

Once you've added your line of white dots above and below the image, and let them dry (!), mount the image to the Certainly Celery, about 1/4" from the bottom edge of the Certainly Celery cardstock.

Take an 18" piece of 3/8" wide, red double-faced satin ribbon and tie it in a bow around the top part of the Certainly Celery, above your stamped image. Trim the ends at an angle.  (If you don't have the ribbon on hand, you can find it at any large craft store or fabric store).  Use your SNAIL adhesive generously to mount this whole piece to the right side of the Wild Wasabi base card, leaving a 1/4" frame on the right side, top and bottom.

Mount your photo on the left, and you are ready to mail your family portrait to all of your loved ones with your holiday greetings!
