Greetings!
I hope you had a very enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday! It's so hard to believe that we are now embarking on those few short weeks remaining before Christmas and the New Year. The remaining four projects in the 12 Weeks of Christmas are going to be getting simpler and simpler, and will focus on gift bags, tags and other small papercrafted items. This week, it's a variation on the "2, 5, 7, 10" bag, which makes a delightful party favor, or could be used to hold a name card for a dinner place setting.
As you know, with each newsletter also comes the opportunity to purchase a full kit for making the project. Alternatively, you have the option of purchasing pieces of each kit, if, for example, you already have the stamp set, and only want to purchase the supplies and pre-cut cardstock. OR, if you have good intentions, but there simply are not enough hours in the day, you'll also have the choice to buy the finished product. It's not too late to purchase the projects from Weeks 1-8- but they won't be available much longer!! Scroll down to the bottom of this newsletter for the info.

Party Favor Instructions

This is a truly simple project, and requires only one sheet of cardstock for the bag itself, plus anything you want to use for embellishement. Obviously, by changing the colors and/or the stamp sets and decorations, you can create a wonderful hand-crafted party favor for any occasion at any time of year: dinner parties, birthday parties, weddings, or showers. They are wonderful for candy or small gifts. And you could use them as placeholders for a dinner gathering by putting each individual's name on the bag or the embellishment; you could even add their name on a tag!
I chose a winter theme that can be used for Christmas, Hannukah, or even New Year's parties. The bag itself is decorated using a Stampin' Around Wheel from the Holiday Mini-Catalog, called "Snow".
The snowflake embellishment is from the "Snowfall" stamp set, and is highlighted with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder to give it the same glittery quality as new-fallen snow. The color pallet is simple in cool tones of Whisper White and Soft Sky (one of this year's InColors), and with a highlight of silver ribbon.
Start by placing your full sheet of cardstock in landscape layout on your work surface (long edges at the top and bottom). Put your ink cartridge and stamping wheel into the handle. (If you are not familiar with the use of stamping wheels, check out a recent post on my website for more details.) I also used the "Stampin' Around Wheel Guide" to help me roll in straight lines, but it's not required. Starting rolling on your work surface, then onto your cardstock, and right off the other side of the cardstock. This ensures that you will have your stamped images right up to the edges of the cardstock. You will make 6 to 8 passes across the cardstock to fill it.
Now get out your Paper Cutter, with the scoring blade attached. Put the cardstock in, again in landscape format, with the top of the image at the top of the Paper Cutter. You will score four parallel lines at 2", 5", 7" and 10". Looking at your cardstock when you are done, you should see a 2"-wide panel, then a 3", then a 2", then a 3", with the last one 1" wide. Turn the cardstock to portrait layout, with the top of your image on the left hand side. Make another score line from top to bottom at 7".
Lay the cardstock in front of you, in landscape format, with the top of the image at the top, and the horizontal score line at the bottom. Make a short cut on each vertical score line with sharp scissors, starting at the bottom, and cutting only 1-1/2" up to the horizontal score line. Remove the rectangle in the lower right completely, and the trim the ends of the remaining 1" wide panel on the diagonal as shown below. At this point, you can also use decorative scissors on the upper edge; I used a slanted scallop on mine.

Now fold along each of the score lines. Put a piece of Sticky Strip on the 1" panel, right next to the score line. (The crookedness in this photo is an illusion! You should have a nice straight line of tape!!) Burnish it well with your bone folder before removing the red liner. Then line up the opposite edge of the cardstock carefully over this tape, and apply gentle pressure to get it to adhere the length of the tape. Fold in the two short sides at the bottom, and then one of the longer sides. Apply another piece of Sticky Strip to the end of the remaining long side, burnish it, and the stick it to the bottom. Your bag is now constructed.
Gently pinch the top opening of the bag to pleat it. Do this on both sides. Then take your 1/4" punch to put two holes about 3/4" from the top of the bag.

Thread your silver ribbon through both holes, so both ends are in front. Take the right end, put it back down through the left hole, and back up again through the right hole. Genly snug it down and trim the ends of the ribbon.

Make your embellishment by stamping the largest snowflake from "Snowfall" with Versamark ink on Whisper White cardstock. Emboss the image with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder. This is a clear embossing powder that contains glitter, so it adds a wonderful effect without adding a ton of actual glitter. Here's the part you may hate: use fine-tipped scissors to cut out the snowflake. (It's not that bad- I promise!! All the cutting lines are short and straight!!) Mount the cut snowflake using Stampin' Dimensionals on a piece of Soft Sky cardstock cut 2-1/2" X 2-1/2".
Almost done! Cut a piece of Soft Sky cardstock into a long strip, 3/4" X 11". Cut a piece of Whisper White 3/8" X 11 inches. Use double sided tape to attach the white strip in the center of the blue strip. Gently, and faintly, score the stip at 2", 5", 7" and 10", and wrap it around the bottom part of the bag, creasing the folds as you go. Use Mini-Glue Dots to adhere the ends of this "belly band" together.
Finally, used Mini Glue Dots to center the snowflake embellishment on the belly band.
Voila!! Easy gifts for your friends to enjoy!
