12 Weeks of Christmas - Week 2

Greetings!

Here is your second newsletter in the "12 Weeks of Christmas" program!  Each week, through early December, I will provide you, my newsletter readers, with specific instructions for gifts and cards that you can make.  The first four weeks will focus on greeting cards, the second four weeks on gifts and home decor items, and the last four weeks on tags, bags, and wraps.

All instructions will be included in the newsletter.  If you would like to purchase a kit to make the featured item, you will be able to do so.  Feel free to forward this newsletter to your crafty friends so they can join the fun.  (And you'll have a chance to win a prize!)

This week features the Stampin' Up! rubber stamp set "Season of Joy".  It premiered in last years' Holiday mini catalog, and I am so happy that they introduced it in the main catalog because it is so versatile.  In fact, this week you get a bonus:  a second card made with the same set to inspire you!

I have lots of classes coming up for the holidays as well, so take a peak at those.  If you are not local, they are all available as virtual classes as well, with step-by-step instructions, and all materials pre-cut for you.  Contact me for details!

Keep creating!

Season of Joy Card Instructions

Season of Joy

The Season of Joy stamp set is one of my current favorites.  It includes the images shown above, as well as a lovely tree, a pretty flourish, and a pointsettia-like flower.  (Check out the "bonus" card image, below!)

In addition to the stamp set, you'll need the following materials:
  • Not Quite Navy cardstock,  5-1/2" X 8-1/2"
  • Baja Breeze cardstock, 4" X 5-1/4"
  • Not Quite Navy cardstock, 2-5/8" X 3-3/4"
  • Whisper White cardstock, 2-3/8" X 3-1/2"
  • Scrap of Baja Breeze (for the "o" in "Joy")
  • Not Quite Navy dye ink pad
  • 3/4" circle punch
  • 8" silver ribbon
  • SNAIL adhesive
  • Stampin' Dimensionals

Fold the large piece of Not Quite Navy Cardstock in half to creat the card base; the fold is along the left edge of this card.  Using the large snowflake image and the Not Quite Navy ink, stamp randomly on the Baja Breeze to create a background.  Mount this on the Not Quite Navy card base.

WIth the large word stamp, and Not Quite Navy ink, stamp near the top edge of the Whisper White cardstock, leaving a border of about 1/4".  You can eyeball this placement, or use a Stamp-a-ma-jig if you want to be more precise.

Re-ink the "o" of "joy" with Not Quite Navy, and stamp on the scrap of Baja Breeze.  Punch out the letter using the 3/4" circle punch.  Your punched image will include the lines drawn around the small snowflake, but not the dots.

Tie the silver ribbon around the bottom of the Whisper White, centering it in the blank white space.  Tie a square knot and trim the ends.  (For a square knot reminder, click here!)

Mount the Whisper White on the small piece of Not Quite Navy, centering it so there is an equal border all-around.

Mount the blue "o" onto the white "joy" using a Stampin' Dimensional.  (This is a piece of foam with adhesives on both sides, so your piece will be raised up off the white background a bit.)

Mount your main image on your card, with a little more border on the bottom (~1") than on the top (~3/4").

Voila!  A fast and easy card for the holidays.  This one would lend itself to mass production for your Christmas greetings, if you chose.

Bonus Card
Season of Joy Flower I had so much fun playing with the Season of Joy stamp set that I wanted to share another, very different, card that can be made with the same set.

My colors for this card are Real Red, Garden Green, and Whisper White.  The flourish is stamped twice, overlapping in the center.  The flower is then stamped once directly on top of the flourishes, in the center, and then again twice on scrap white cardstock.  I cut out the two extra flowers, and mounted them on top of each other, and on top of the base, rotating them so the petals peeked out from the bottom layers.  I used Stampin' Dimensionals so there is some additional texture to the card.  The center is three golden jewels from my stash; you could use gold seed beads.

I finished with a green satin cord and a gold cord tied together, and the corners of the white and red cardstock were punched with the Ticket Corner punch.

This is one of my faves- simple and elegant!
