12 Weeks of Christmas - Week 12

Greetings!

Well, here we are, it's the last Week of Christmas and all through the house not a creature is stirring....Oh, wait a minute- that's not how it goes...  I don't know about you, but for me time has continued to fly by, even with my best efforts to be in the moment and enjoy every day.  I resolve, again this year, to try to do better with appreciating every day as a gift.

This week's project, as promised, is very simple and quick.  In fact, there are not even any kits associated with it, because we are so close to the holiday.  But it's something that might come in handy:  a money holder.  It is sized to fit American currency, or a standard "wallet size" check.  My gift certificates also fit very nicely....(That's a hint- if you'd like to order a gift certificate for a friend in any amount, just email me: Sara@SaraJanesStudio.com.  I will email you a gift certificate that you can print out and present to your best crafting buddy!  See below for more details.)

Wishing you all a wonderful, happy and healthy holiday season!

Keep creating!

Money Holder Instructions
 Money holder finished

This project requires only one sheet of double-sided decorative paper, no larger than 8-1/2" X 11".  In fact, you can use a single-sided paper, and the finished size is 6-3/4" by 7-5/8" so you can even get away with a piece of leftover paper from another project.  (I almost found myself calling it "scrap" paper.  Heavens.)

I used a piece from the "Dashing" set of papers by Stampin' Up!.  (This paper is RETIRING!! as of December 31.  See the details in this newsletter, on the right.) The camera did not do the color justice in this case- the main color is called River Rock (one of the 2008 InColors), which is a lovely khaki green.  It's a great combination with traditional red and green.  Here, I used Real Red and Wild Wasabi (another of the InColors).

Money holder closeupThe pattern is shown on the right.  You can download the pattern for this money holder by clicking here.  This will take you to my website, where it is posted as a PDF file.  When I open it, it seems to take a little longer than normal, so hopefully you are more patient than I am!  It should print out true to size, but the dimensions are also printed on the pattern just in case there is anything lost in the electronic translation.  All you have to do is download it and print it.  (It is virus free!)

Money holder pattern layoutThe easiest way to use this pattern is to cut out the rectangle that contains the pattern, and then use a scissors to trim the two curved edges.  Cut a similar rectangle from your decorative paper (6-3/4" X 7-5/8") and lay out the pattern on the side that you want to have as the inside of your money holder.  Trace around the curved edges lightly with a pencil, and then cut just inside your lines.

Money Holder with sticky tapeScore the designer paper 2-7/8" and 5-7/8" from the left edge.  Cut a piece of Sticky Strip just shy of 3" and place it at the bottom of what is now the central panel (Panel B on your pattern).  Cut another piece a little less than 4-1/2" long, and place it along the right edge of Panel C, starting at the bottom of the holder.  Burnish the tape well with your bone folder before you remove the red liner- this assures good adhesion.

Money holder fold Panel ANow remove the red liner from the tape at the bottom of Panel B, and fold Panel A over.  Burnish the bottom where the tape is to get a good stick.  Repeat the process with the tape on the right edge.

Money holder closeupYou are, essentially, finished.  Depending on what paper you chose, this could be sufficiently decorative all by itself.  I couldn't stop here, though.  I made a little tag from one of the stamps in the now-retired mini-Catalog, continuing the polka dot theme, using River Rock and Real Red ink.  I mounted it sequentially on Wild Wasabi and Real Red cardstock.  I tied a piece of 5/8" wide red organdy ribbon around the holder, and used a short piece of gold cord to tie the tag onto the ribbon.
