Greetings!
There's important work afoot and at hand! Today's inbox wisdom expressed it well:
"Nature ever flows, stands never still. Motion or change is her mode of existence." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
As summer winds down, at least in Colorado where there's a hint of Fall in the early mornings, we count on a bountiful harvest! We are ever grateful for the time, talent and treasure that helps sustain the Society. There is high need now for additional gifts and pledges. Thank you for considering carefully the opportunity to support the work of ISSSEEM.
Labor Day is aptly named -we celebrate the fruits of a productive summer even as we are feeling the re-initiation of a cycle. I always wonder if it's the changing season or 'school work' that calls us to settle back to routine. The ISSSEEM summer bounty holds more than one SEEM Journal close to being published and there's a brand new and wonderful edition of Bridges Magazine for members out this week. Seeing and Believing by Edgar Mitchell, plus articles on a global intention event, sunlight and water and everyday intention are what Bridges has in store.
If you're a new member, and missed the early 2010 Bridges Magazine, reply now and request a link to that issue-OR Join ISSSEEM now and receive both 2010 issues (reply to me with your request after joining). JOIN This offer is especially valuable if you share Bridges Magazine with friends along with an invitation to join and support ISSSEEM and living subtle energies. ISSSEEM is lighting it up!! Enthusiastic planning and lively effort has gone into the major progress the Program Committee has made on the 2011 conference, Light, Vision, and Consciousness. (3rd weekend in June in beautiful Colorado!) The new conference site is OPEN -- Click here to see the exciting theme and the amazing lineup of presenters (so far!)-exhibiting and volunteering info too! It's easier than ever to submit a letter of intent to present - and Members, be sure to submit to present in Members Choice.
Do you know people who are interested in an evidence-based scientific & spiritual forum where research and information about energy medicine, health and wellness, and behavioral sciences are shared? Tell them about ISSSEEM - it's easy to forward this newsletter to your distribution lists and post it to Facebook, Twitter or your blog.
Blesses for bountiful harvest of your own.

Bulletin Board News from Board of Directors and Members
Congratulations Brian Luke Seaward!
I wanted to share some exciting news about my documentary, Earth Songs.
I recently received notice that the movie was nominated for an International award: The Images and Voices of Hope Award. The upcoming annual 2010 Images and Voices of Hope Awards of Appreciation will be held at the 11th annual Images and Voices of Hope World Summit in New York September 23-26. The awards recognize outstanding work in media that promotes positive personal and social change. For more information, visit www.ivoh.org
Needless to say, it is quite exciting!!! The nomination itself is an honor. Earth Songs is now playing in hospitals and cancer centers across the country as well as for our returning US soldiers from both wars with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. People tell me it's my best achievement. I think so too!

I Am Not Supposed To Be Here: A Story of Love, Miracles and Never Giving Up by Kate Dendrinos-Rickel, Shawn Rickel and Steve Marsh In 2002, Kate and Shawn were searching for property on which to open an equine therapy center when they were involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Kate suffered a near fatal traumatic brain injury. The trauma was so significant the brain centers controlling Kate's speech and motor skills were surgically removed. Shawn was told by Kate's neurosurgeon that, if by some miracle she did survive, she would never walk or talk again.
But Kate astounded the medical community when she survived and recovered enough to walk, talk, ride horses and drive a car within a year of the accident.
Fulfilling the goal of finding property and opening their center kept Kate motivated to stay focused through her rehabilitation. They began offering therapeutic riding classes on a limited basis in 2003. However, the couple was forced to suspend operations as Kate's condition mysteriously deteriorated over the next four years and she became completely incapacitated.
The solving of Kate's medical mystery and her return to full health is chronicled in Shawn and Kate's book, I Am Not Supposed To Be Here, which was published in October of 2009. A portion of the proceeds from the book goes to fund the equine therapy center. Big View Ranch, located on 37 acres in beautiful Golden Gate Canyon outside of Golden, Colorado is the home of Big View Ranch Equine Therapy, LLC.
Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach With her wry humor and inextinguishable curiosity, Mary Roach has crafted her own quirky niche in the somewhat staid world of science writing, showing no fear (or shame) in the face of cadavers, ectoplasm, or sex. In Packing for Mars, Roach tackles the strange science of space travel, and the psychology, technology, and politics that go into sending a crew into orbit. Roach is unfailingly inquisitive (Why is it impolite for astronauts to float upside down during conversations? Just how smelly does a spacecraft get after a two week mission?), and she eagerly seeks out the stories that don't make it onto NASA's website--from SPCA-certified space suits for chimps, to the trial-and-error approach to crafting menus during the space program's early years (when the chefs are former livestock veterinarians, taste isn't high on the priority list). Packing for Mars is a book for grownups who still secretly dream of being astronauts, and Roach lives it up on their behalf--weightless in a C-9 aircraft, she just can't resist the opportunity to go "Supermanning" around the cabin. Her zeal for discovery, combined with her love of the absurd, amazing, and stranger-than-fiction, make Packing for Mars an uproarious trip into the world of space travel.
Truly funny.... Roach's writing is supremely accessible, but there's never a moment when you aren't aware of how much research she's done into unexplored reaches of space travel. (Entertainment Weekly ) http://www.maryroach.net/packing-for-mars.html

The Mindfulness Code, Keys for Overcoming Stress, Anxiety, Fear and Unhappiness by Donald Altman
The first page of the first chapter, Accept This Moment, greets the reader with a quote for Charles Tart that says, "The trouble with ordinary reality is that a lot of it is dull, so we long ago decided to leave for somewhere better." Maybe that's the problem with humanity? Donald Altman, adjunct professor, psychotherapist, former Buddhist monk and author, gives practical techniques for overcoming the stress, anxiety, fear and unhappiness stemming from living in today's always-connected and fast-paced society. The keys to overcome such consequences address the body, mind, spirit and relationship aspects. The book explores the connections between all four and provides practices for finding mental, emotional and spiritual communion. He doesn't ignore the joy and and confidence that comes from forming deeper connections in the community and in human relationships. Larry Dossey, M.D., well-known author of "Healing Words and Prayer is Good Medicine," is quoted in the chapter 6, Use Sacred Word to Turn Away from Despair. The chapter focuses in on the power of meditation as a way to enter healing states. This is yet another example of how completely Donald Altman covers the different aspects of mindfulness.
I recommend the book for everyone who wants to raise their mindfulness practices and those that are new to the whole concept of living mindfully. Anyone can learn these tools and use them to transform their life from the inside out. According to the author, he wrote The Mindfulness Code "as an anecdote for those who sense that their lives are either empty or out of balance and want something more." Doesn't that apply to the majority of people? I think so.
