Rustum Roy, a presenter at our upcoming conference, is a world renowned Materials Scientist, holder of 5 professorships and an incisive voice regarding Integral Health and research.
RR: What I think is important now is Whole Person Healing; that's why I'm talking to a Reiki Master.
NJ: Would you define Whole Person Healing?
RR: Whole Person Healing is our preferred term encompassing Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM), homeopathy, Ayruveda, qigong, Energy Medicine and ancestral healing practices from all cultures.
NJ: Where did your interest in Integral Medicine begin?
RR: Friendship with these articulate innovators, who were applying natural healing modes- Norman Cousins, Ivan Illich, Linus Pauling, Robert Rodale, all deeply committed to meeting the mission of Whole Person Healing - caused me to ask, 'What can I do?'
NJ: What did you find?
RR: My contribution is very small. It is to bring the scientists together with doctors and other healers; as a well known scientist I can engineer a meeting of the few open-minded scientists that we have with the medical community and the healing community. 'Healing' is a much better term than 'medicine'. You are a Reiki Master who heals. You're not doing medicine.
NJ: And Friends for Health - you serve as Chair there. What is its focus?
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND RESEARCH
RR: The goal of Friends for Health is to bring the art and science of Integral Medicine together. Science contributes, but it's not a big deal. I think science is overblown in our culture. Sure - we talk a good story - there is a lot of pretence in science. I want to make a distinction between science and technology. Science has done very little for the world. Technology has done a huge amount for our world's better function. Science creates a lot of research, but basically is a minor

Nisha Money - She's Not Your Traditional Healer

 The U.S. military is known for using super secret codes to identify sensitive projects. The key word here is sensitive. Who would have thought that the US military has a softer side? Project code name: I-Rest which translates to Integrative Restoration, a code name for yoga nidra. According to a source in the military, yoga is one of the newest 'secret weapons' in the US Armed Forces. Major Nisha Money, who currently serves as the Chief of Air Force Fitness for the Surgeon General at USAF Headquarters in Washington DC, gave me the scoop. Major Money MD, MPH, ABHM, trained in Preventive Medicine with an emphasis in clinical epidemiology and international health has an integrative medicine practice on the side. She's also boarded by the American Board of Holistic Medicine, certified by UCLA's Physician's Medical Acupuncture Program, accomplished in "neurorobics", and trained in mind-body medicine modalities and yoga nidra (Integrative Restoration -iRest)) to help alleviate emotional distress secondary to trauma. Certified in US Army Combat, Casualty, Care (C4) and Survival Evasion Rescue and Escape (SERE) training, Dr Money has completed a utilization tour as a Flight Surgeon with additional duties as the Medical Commander for Homeland Security and Initial Disaster Response Teams. Many of our brave soldiers suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) are being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. within a specialized care program that incorporates the I-Rest protocol. Major Money stated that she hopes that it will not be long before there is a movement to integrate body- mind-spirit healing modalities that not only serve as treatment interventions for emotional and physical trauma but also play a role in prevention by attenuating the impact of emotional trauma experienced in the battlefield. As she put it, "Our soldiers are sent into combatant zones physically prepared to fight. It would also be helpful to add components within deployment readiness training programs that build mental strength as well." Nisha Money is a different kind of healer, working out of cement government offices, not in hushed, softly lit, treatment rooms more often associated with the movement of subtle energies. On Sunday, June 28th, Major Money will be presenting at the annual conference for International Society for the Studies of Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine (ISSSEEM) to be held from June 26 - July 1, 2009 at the Westin hotel in Westminster, Colorado. Additionally, side by side with Deepak Chopra and Rustum Roy, Nisha will co-host a dinner and town hall meeting examining the divergence and confluence of consciousness in the community. Surrounded by leading experts, where else could you find so many great minds and such stimulating conversation? Nisha remarked how "our backgrounds may have us coming from different perspectives but due to the inherent nature of consciousness there's bound to be a convergence of understanding and experience of the universality within the plurality."
