Ultrasound Study
Continues
Dr. Brem's study to determine if Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) together with routine screening mammograms is more sensitive to detecting breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue is still on going.
Dense breasts are an independent risk factor for breast cancer and it is more difficult to image dense breasts with mammography alone. This research may lead to important breakthroughs in better detection of breast cancer in women with dense breasts.
If you would like to participate in this study, please contact Dr. Brem's office at 202-741-3031. For more information on this study please log onto www.bremfoundation.org.
You and your insurance company will be billed for the mammogram. There is no cost for the ultrasound scan.

Calvert County Supports Brem Foundation |
On a spectacular day colored orange by autumn foliage, over 160 women and men gathered to meet Dr. Rachel Brem and hear her speak about what women can do to maintain breast health and catch breast cancer at it's earliest stages. Dr. Brem informed the group, "95% of breast cancers are curable if found early. Get your mammograms." With the ultrasound study coming to a close, Dr. Brem reported preliminary results show that 50% more breast cancers have been found in women with dense breasts who receive whole breast ultrasound in addition to mammograms. She added "Ask your doctor or radiologist if you have dense breasts. The only way to tell is through mammography".
Guests commented about how enlightening the event was. "Thank you for caring enough about me to invite me to this. I'm so happy I came," was one of the many positive comments.
Many thanks to the local businesses who sponsored the event and the hostesses who helped make it a success. In addition to arming women with valuable information, the event raised over $12,000. 100% of the monies will go toward Brem Foundation projects.
Several Prince Georges county residents have offered to assist in hosting an event in March 2012.
Thank you for your continued support. With your help we are all making a difference! |
- The Washington, DC area has the highest death rate from breast cancer in the nation.
- 75% of breast cancers are diagnosed in women with no family history of the disease.
With your help we can change these statistics. Brem Foundation is committed to reaching out to under-served communities and continuing to host educational events to keep women informed about the latest technology and research to find breast cancer at its earliest stages.
