Ultrasound Study Continues
Dr. Brem's study to determine if Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) together with routine screening mammograms is more sensitive to detecting breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue is still on-going.
Dense breasts are an independent risk factor for breast cancer. It is more difficult to image dense breasts with mammogram alone. This research may lead to important breakthroughs in better detection of breast cancer in women with dense breasts.
If you would like to participate in this study, please contact Dr. Brem's office at 202-741-3031. For more information on this study please log onto www.bremfoundation.org. You and your insurance company will be billed for the mammogram. There is no cost for the ultrasound scan.

Dear Friends,
This spring found Brem Foundation busy as bees with appearances on The Dr. Oz Show, fundraisers benefiting Brem Foundation, educational brunches, and continuing to bring breast cancer awareness to women around the DC area. One of the many highlights this season was meeting Marc Heyison who is the President and Founder of Men Against Breast Cancer. MABC is designed to provide targeted support services that educate and empower men to be effective caregivers when cancer strikes the women they love. Thanks to Men Against Breast Cancer for all you do to help women and their families during this difficult time. Sincerely, Board of Directors Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer |

Over 100 women gathered on a beautiful May day to join Brem Foundation for an educational brunch at the Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center to hear Dr. Rachel Brem empower women with information to take control of their breast health and discuss the latest research in breast cancer detection. Attendees watched a moving video featuring five women who have been helped by Brem Foundation's Biopsy and Diagnostic Procedures Fund. The day was highlighted by the introduction of Dr. Heather Peppard, Dr. Brem's Radiologist Fellow who is supported by Brem Foundation.
Many thanks to Foundation president, Sue Apple, Event Chairperson, Jody Goldkind, and all the hostesses who helped make this event a success! The event raised over $5,000. |
| Brem Foundation is excited to have the talented and very dedicated Dr. Heather Peppard as its first Radiologist Fellow. After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia and completing her residency at Christina Hospital in Delaware, Dr. Heather Peppard completed a cross-sectional imaging fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. After two years in private practice, Dr. Peppard decided to dedicate her life to women and breast imaging. |

Old South Country Club Benefits Brem Foundation |
For the third year, Old South Women's Golf Association in Anne Arundel County, MD benefited Brem Foundation with their annual Open Day fundraiser. The beautifully decorated dining room was very festive with pink and orange throughout. Pink and orange napkins complimented the pink and orange flower centerpieces, only to be highlighted by all the golfers wearing pink and/or orange outfits. Dr. Brem spoke to the ladies about the importance of getting annual mammograms and the difference between digital and analog mammograms. The atmosphere was happy
and exciting with raffles and prizes for many.
Thanks to Nell Chaney, her hardworking commitee, and all the ladies from OSWGA who raised over $12,000!!! You truly are making a difference in women's lives. |
