Ultrasound  Study
 Continues
Dr. Brem's study to determine if having Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) together with routine screening mammograms is more sensitive to detecting breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue is still on going.

At George Washington University they have definitely found more cancers in the preliminary data and await the rest of the study, but the results are very promising that whole breast automated ultrasound can detect cancers that are not visible in women with dense breasts, by virtue of the breast density.  It is truly exciting technology!

If you would like to participate in this study, please contact Dr. Brem's office at 202-741-3031.  For more information on this study please log onto www.bremfoundation.org.  You and your insurance company will be billed for the mammogram.  There is no cost for the ultrasound scan.

Biopsy and Diagnostic Fund
During 2010 Brem Foundation expanded the Biopsy Fund to include other necessary breast diagnostic procedures for uninsured and underinsured women.  These women have been seen and screened by Dr. Brem or her staff, and have been qualified to receive serviceswomen supported by the Biopsy and Diagnostic Fund.  The Foundation has negotiated significant discounts through George Washington University Hospital for these services.  In 2010 the Foundation paid over $78,000 for these services and has helped 86 women through this very necessary project.

Fellowship Project
Beginning January 2011 and through 2013, the Foundation will support an annual Fellowship Program for a breast radiologist who will trainFellowship directly with Dr. Rachel Brem.  The Fellowship Radiologist will focus on Dr. Brem's protocols for early detection, rapid access to diagnosis, safeguarding the physical and emotional health of the patient through the process, and community outreach to the underserved.  The goal is to raise the standard of care throughout the nation by sending radiologists trained to provide the highest standards in breast care everywhere.  The Fellowship radiologists will participate in community outreach, educating women about breast cancer research and their options for the ultimate breast health.

The cost of this program for a 2 1/2 year commitment is approximately $205,000.  Due to the generosity of one of Brem Foundation's donors, the first 6 months has been funded.  If you would like to know more about the Fellowship Program or would like to help support this valuable program, please contact the Foundation at info@bremfoundation.org.
