Dr. Brem

November found Dr. Brem in Washington, DC fighting for women's right to continue getting annual mammograms starting at age 40. The USPS Task Force's study stating that women should not get mammograms until age 50 and then only every other year was met with confusion and concern among many women. A strong advocate for yearly mammograms, Dr. Brem appeared on NBC, ABC, CBS local and national news, and WTOP radio, voicing her strong disagreements on the Task Force's findings and stating scientific reasons why this study will set breast cancer progress back 20 years.

Many thanks to the Foundation's vice-president and publicist, Sharon Allen Gilder, for helping Dr. Brem get the word out.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The fall was a busy season for Brem Foundation. Thanks to the support of our wonderful hostesses we had two very informative brunches. Halloween found the Foundation at The Naughty Gull in Solomons, Maryland where there were no tricks but wonderful treats in the form of a crab cake lunch for over 70 women and men thanks to the generosity of Pat Emmons who closed the doors to her restaurant and donated all the food for the event. Among others things, Dr. Brem informed guests that no woman should go into an operating room for a breast biopsy. With today's technology, a woman can have a needle biopsy and go back to work the same day. This valuable information had an immediate impact on the lives of guests in attendance. Thanks to Emalie Gibbons Baker, Pat Blackford, Pat Emmons and The Naughty Gull, Jamie Grove, Peggy Hovermale, Su Hu, Sue Kullen, Heather Maertens, Patti Miller, Caren Pituck and Yvonne Tepsick for inviting their friends and families the Foundation raised over $5,600 in donations! After five long days of rain, the sun came out to welcome Brem Foundation on November 15th at Norbeck Country Club in Olney, MD. Standing in front of a glass wall overlooking the beautiful golf course greens, Dr. Brem spoke to over 170 women about the importance of yearly mammograms and insuring that your mammogram is being read by a breast imaging radiologist. The Foundation received over $10,000 in donations thanks to hostesses Beth Albaneze, Rita Bradley, Beth Bonita, Cathy Colleli, Sue Dailey, Jody Goldkind, Sara Gordon, Karen Howes, Kim Cody Hysell, Debbie Kivitz, Karen Krens, Cindi Lapietra, Danielle Mandir, Sheila Poms, Paula Schwartz, Kitty Strauss, Lauri Wright. If you would like to attend a gathering or be a hostess, contact the Foundation at info@bremfoundation.org. |
