Mammo Memo
The person reading your mammogram is more important than whether you are getting an analog or digital mammogram.
ASK WHO IS READING YOUR FILMS AND HOW OFTEN THEY READ MAMMOGRAM FILMS.
The more frequent a person reads films the better they are.

How can $1,000.00 save a woman's life?
The average cost of a Breast Biopsy is $1,000.00
for underserved and underinsured women in need.
The cost for 1 day for the Mammovan - $3,000.00
The George Washington University Medical Center has a van equipped with the latest technology to perform mammograms for underserved and underinsured women in the DC Metro area. The cost to operate the Mammovan is $3,000.00 per day. The Brem Foundation's goal is to increase the availability by two days so that the Mammovan is available to screen more women in more communities.
Your donation can help us accomplish these goals and make a direct difference in women's lives.
You will be amazed by the impact of your donation! You can easily help one more underserved/uninsured woman receive a necessary, and perhaps, lifesaving biopsy by putting together an easy-to-do fundraiser. If you are interested in getting a small fundraiser together with your neighborhood, family, friends, or office please contact the Foundation at info@bremfoundation.org. |
The Board of Directors thanks you for your continued support and commitment to the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer! | |
| The Brem Foundation enjoyed an incredible 1st Quarter! Through the hard work of volunteers and generosity of donors we have achieved enormous success in many areas. Read all about our very exciting beginning to 2008 in this newsletter. |

Brunch & Brem
SUCCESS!
On a lovely May morning, fourteen women hosted a brunch for the Brem Foundation at The Oak Room in Sandy Spring, Maryland. The event, beautifully decorated by hostess Jody Goldkind, was attended by over 130 women and catered by Barry Schwartz's BJ Pumpernickel. Both BJ Pumpernickel and The Sandy Spring Fire Department supported the Foundation by donating a large portion of their costs.
Over $8,000.00 was raised to support Foundation goals thanks to guests invited by hostesses Beth Bejeck, Lynne Bergman, Beth Bonita, Maria Bousquet, Andrea Edmonds, Lori Garnher, Barbara Goldenberg, Jody Goldkind, Judy Hines, Peggy Hovermale, Paula Schwartz, Lisa Paul, Harriet Sadel & Anne Sturm.
Not all hostesses pictured.
Dr. Brem spoke about her research which is advancing health in the field of breast cancer. She highlighted key areas of focus for women to insure they receive the optimum care when getting their mammograms. She also shared encouraging news about how the latest technology is helping detect breast cancer at its earliest stages.
The Foundation thanks the Brunch & Brem hostesses for their hard work and for helping the Brem Foundation continue its mission to eradicate breast cancer as a life threatening disease.

Raffle Raises Funds And Awareness
by Sharon Allen Gilder
a condensed version of the article that ran in the Calvert Independent on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Judge Marjorie L. Clagett, on the bench of the Circuit Court for Calvert County for thirteen years, and her administrative assistant, , are no strangers to community involvement and giving, so the idea of raffling one of Davis' stained glass panels for charity came quite naturally.
The seed for the idea was planted when Judge Clagett was moved by an event she attended last November at Old Field Inn for the Brem Foundation to Defeat Breast Cancer. Clagett explained, "What I went away with was that I was truly amazed to see the number of women in Calvert County from all walks of life, banding together in an absolute grassroots organization." Sharing her reaction to Brem's information with Davis, the two organized a fundraiser raffle at the courthouse with proceeds earmarked for the Brem Foundation.
Davis, who has been creating beautiful custom stained glass work for twenty-eight years, selected her 18" X 24" piece titled, "Shadow Dancer" to donate to the raffle, "Because it has a lot of pink in it. Three people in our building are dealing with breast cancer, so it was important to show support for them." Davis added, "Judges, attorneys, any people who came through the courthouse bought tickets." "Shadow Dancer" raised $875 for the Brem Foundation. Judge Clagett had the winning ticket. Currently, the piece resides in the judge's chambers while it awaits installation in the Infusion and Oncology Center at Calvert Memorial Hospital.
A familiar echo in the Clagett household may be the word "judge" since Clagett's husband is Judge Stephen Clagett, but a familiar echo in conversations with Judge Marjorie Clagett as she speaks to the positive effects of banding together for giving, is her analogy to a pebble in a pond. "It is like dropping a pebble into a pond and the ripple effect. The foundation rippled out and the ripples are getting together. It works not in isolation. You see those ripples, those consequences, you see over and over again. It's endless, it's like an infinity, the band of ripples." With the generosity of people like Davis and the Clagett's the band of ripples will continue to play on. |
