Making a Difference in 2008!

Research - The Brem Foundation is assisting with the funding of a research coordinator at George Washington University Medical Center to work directly with Dr. Rachel Brem.   During 2007 the Foundation paid $20,000.00 toward this goal.   An additional $40,000.00 is scheduled to be paid in 2008. To read Dr. Brem's most recent professional papers visit Dr. Brem In Print on the Foundation's web site at www.bremfoundation.org

Biopsy Fund - Thanks to Brem Foundation supporters, in 2007 the Foundation's Biopsy Fund helped over one dozen underinsured women pay for biopsies totaling $12,524.00.  Thank you for helping make a difference! So far, in 2008, the Foundation has paid for half a dozen biopsies!

Community Outreach - The Foundation continues to make great strides in the area of Community Outreach.

Newsletter - Developing and continuing our quarterly newsletter has helped the Foundation stay in touch with all its donors while keeping everyone informed about Foundation projects, goals, and needs.  We hope you are enjoying this publication and welcome any comments regarding how the Brem Foundation Newsletter might improve and better serve you.

Gatherings - The Foundation participated in three major gatherings in 2007.  Through the generosity of Jody Goldkind, Carla Perlo and Dance Place, and Sue Apple, Pat Blackford, Betsy Bossart, Eleanor Fones, Delegate Sue Kullen, Joann Kushner, Jackie Martin, Carrie Polk, and Laurie Uherek in Calvert County, the Foundation raised funds and awareness about breast health, Dr. Brem's work, and the Brem Foundation's goals.

Fundraisers - Our Mother's Day card, Holiday card, and Holiday Gift card campaigns were very successful.  We look forward to doing more of these fundraisers as well as other major and small community oriented fundraisers.

Brem is committed to making the latest technology available

The Foundation is very proud of our ability to purchase a Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera!

This was a great accomplishment and a very big step toward the Foundation's commitment to make the latest technology in breast care and breast cancer detection available in the Washington, DC area to advance diagnosis, treatment, research and education and make a difference for all women.  At the request of Dr. Brem, the Foundation  purchased the $200,000 breast specific gamma imaging camera from Dilon Technologies for Dr. Brem's Breast Imaging and Intervention Center at GW.  The camera has the latest software for the clearest images and it is the only camera like it in the Mid Atlantic.  The other closest cameras are in Philadelphia and North Carolina.

The Foundation paid $80,000.00 in 2007 toward the camera purchase price of $200,000.00.  The next installment payment of $30,000.00 is due in July 2008.

If you would like to help with the purchase of this vital piece of technology, please send a tax-deductible donation to:

HUGE Success at Calvert County Gathering!

Nov 07 host photo

On November 18, 2007, nine Calvert County businesswomen joined together and hosted a Brem Foundation gathering at Old Field Inn in Prince Frederick, MD.

Over 60 women gathered to hear Dr. Rachel Brem speak and to learn more about the Brem Foundation.  The energy was electrifying!  Dr. Brem spoke about her passion to help women locally and globally.  She spoke about the care that women should expect when getting their mammograms.  She also spoke about her passion to detect breast cancer at its earliest stages and to help women through this process.  Her message "Women in need can't wait!" was well received and appreciated.

The event raised over $6,000.00 and increased breast cancer awareness in Calvert County.  Many thanks to Sue Apple, Pat Blackford, Betsy Bossart, Eleanor Fones, Delegate Sue Kullen, Joann Kushner, Jackie Martin, Carrie Polk, Laurie Uherek and Old Field Inn for hosting this wonderful event.

Watch for upcoming dates where you too can be a Brem Foundation hostess and help raise much needed funds and awareness to defeat breast cancer.

How can $1,000.00 save a woman's life?

The average cost of a Breast Biopsy is $1,000.00

for underserved and underinsured women in need.

The cost for 1 day for the Mammovan - $3,000.00

The George Washington University Medical Center has a van equipped with the latest technology to perform mammograms for underserved and underinsured women in the DC Metro area.  The cost to operate the Mammovan is $3,000.00 per day.  The Brem Foundation's goal is to increase the availability by two days so that the Mammovan is available to screen more women in more communities.

Your donation can help us accomplish these goals and make a direct difference in women's lives.

You will be amazed by the impact of your donation!   You can easily help one more underserved/uninsured woman receive a necessary, and perhaps, lifesaving biopsy by putting together an easy-to-do fundraiser.  If you are interested in getting a small fundraiser together with your neighborhood, family, friends, or office please contact the Foundation at info@bremfoundation.org.
