2012 Legislative Preview

State Legislature Boosts Aerospace Jobs

The end of 2011 has been good for aerospace in Washington.  Just before adjourning from special session, the state Legislature passed three bills to help expand training and proficiency for workers and teachers.  The legislation, which was signed by Governor Gregoire five days before Christmas, will better assure that the next generation is ready for careers as aerospace workers and engineers.    It was  a month that saw record Boeing orders and a landmark contract agreement between the Machinists and Boeing (which secured 737-MAX assembly in Washington).  The Washington Aerospace Partnership will be seeking additional legislation in 2012 to secure a prosperous future aerospace in Washington.   Find out more here

The i6 Green Challenge is a multi-agency initiative to drive technology commercialization and entrepreneurship in support of a green innovation economy, increased U.S. competitiveness and new jobs. The Washington Clean Energy Partnership Project grant is for $1.15 million, split among five partners: Prosperity Partnership, Innovate Washington, South Seattle Community College's Energy Efficiency Technology Training Program, and the Clean Tech Open Mentoring Program.

Project activities will include the development of resources for the testing of energy efficiency solutions (BETI), establishment of a public-private partnership focused on the clean energy industry, and the facilitation of the testing of clean energy products and services to enable their commercialization. The grant project is a result of the Prosperity Partnership's collaboration with the Brookings Institution's Metropolitan Business Plan program.

Washington State Economic Development District Report

A new report details the challenges faced by Economic Development Districts in the state when it comes to building a statewide organization.  Prosperity Partnership has placed priority on reaching out to other parts of the state on common interests.  The report found that the districts aren't well known beyond the places they serve.  The Puget Sound Regional Council is home to the district serving central Puget Sound, and has used that resource to create and grow Prosperity Partnership.Below is a list of Washington State EDDs:
