The Economic Development District Board finalized changes to its Public Works Prioritization Process.

The EDD annually identifies the top economic development related public works projects in the region and submits this ranking to the Economic Development Administration for potential funding.  The board has been conferring on how best to adjust its process to work with the EDA's new quarterly grant program.  The EDD's new Public Works Prioritization Process will commence in March, following adoption of the annual Regional Economic Strategy action items. Applicants will have about six weeks to submit their projects for ranking, which will be finalized by the board at its May meeting. The EDD's rankings will reflect both EDA priorities and Regional Economic Strategy priorities. Watch the discussion online at psrc.org.

The Economic Development District Board continued its work to develop a new Regional Economic Strategy.

The new Regional Economic Strategy will focus on occupational clusters in addition to industry clusters in order to adjust to the challenges the region faces and take advantage of new opportunities. Occupational clusters better identify the jobs people work at and the skills they possess, which can be mobile across industries.  View the presentation online at psrc.org.

The Economic Development District Board learned about the Transportation Policy Board's progress in developing a recommended approach for prioritizing projects in Transportation 2040.

Transportation 2040 includes a commitment to better prioritize transportation investments to meet the objectives of the region's growth strategy. The Transportation Policy Board plans to draft its recommendation this month and to release the Prioritization Process for public comment on December 8, 2011. In spring 2012, PSRC's General Assembly is scheduled to take action on recommended prioritization methods, which are expected to be applied to projects during future updates to Transportation 2040. View the presentation online at psrc.org.
