Congratulations Burien!

Burien debuted its new Burien Transit Center parking garage in August.  The 500-stall park and ride facility has ten electric vehicle charging stations, and will serve King County Metro's new RapidRide F Line connecting Burien, Tukwila, and Renton when service begins in 2013.  PSRC contributed nearly $7.3 million to the project beginning in 2006. Funding provided was a combination of Federal Transit Administration and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality funds.

Celia Kupersmith, Deputy CEO of Sound Transit, Burien Deputy Mayor Brian Bennett, King County Executive Dow Constantine, Burien Mayor Joan McGilton, King County Councilmember Julia Patterson, King County Councilmember Joe McDermott, and Burien Councilmember Rose Clark cut the ribbon on the new garage.

Replacement in the Works

Tacoma is planning to replace the 81-year old bridge, which is an important connection between downtown Tacoma and Fife, serving the Port of Tacoma. The bridge carries over 16,000 vehicles a day and is a key link for freight. PSRC has awarded this project $6 million for the replacement of two of the most deteriorated segments of the bridge. This Surface Transportation Program funding was awarded in 2009 and 2010. Thank you to the City of Tacoma for inviting PSRC staff to tour the Puyallup River Bridge. These informational visits are meaningful in gaining on the ground perspective of the regional work PSRC does. If your city or agency is interested in providing PSRC staff with a tour, please contact Tracy Murray at 206-971-3277.

Stay Tuned for Information on PSRC's 2012 Project Selection Process

The Transportation Policy Board has begun to discuss the Policy Framework for the next project selection process for PSRC funding. The framework provides the policy guidance for how PSRC distributes funds and how the selection process will be conducted. The previous Policy Framework focused PSRC funds in centers and connecting corridors, included support for the Rural Town Centers and Corridors Program and non-motorized projects, and included both regional and countywide selection processes.

The draft schedule for the 2012 project selection is:

* Policy Framework adopted this winter

* Call for Projects issued spring 2012

* Competitive processes conducted through June 2012

* Board review of recommended projects July 2012

* Air quality conformity analysis conducted August 2012

* Public comment period September 2012

* New Regional Transportation Improvement Program approved October 2012, submitted to

state and federal agencies for approval
