 March 2010
Prevention is working . . . and there's more work to do.
Jim VideoIn response to recent media coverage of the National Incidence Study which reported a decline in child abuse rates between 1993 and 2005, Jim Hmurovich of Prevent Child America appeared on a segment reported by CBS/Katie Couric. The decrease took place during a period when states and the federal government were making massive investments in evidence-based prevention strategies, such as home visitation, parent support and education and information on early childhood development. This finding supports our belief that investments in evidence based strategies are working and proving to be less costly to our children, communities and nation. Click here to watch the video.

Come hear Jim speak at our conference in St. Cloud on April 7th. Registration materials available here.

Text 4 Baby Can Save Lives
Each year in the U.S., more than 500,000 babies are born prematurely and an estimated 28,000 children die before their first birthday. In response to this national public health crisis, the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) is launching text4baby, a free mobile information service that provides pregnant women and new moms with information to help them care for their health and give their babies the best possible start in life. The Office on Women's Health is a partner in this educational service. Go to www.text4baby.org.
