Parent Support Outreach Program

Dad and SonThe Parent Support Outreach Program (PSOP) from the Minnesota Department of Human Services provides early intervention, outreach, and support to parents and their families with a child younger than age 10 at risk of child maltreatment. PSOP is presently available in nearly half of all Minnesota counties. Follow this link to County contact information.

A recent evaluation of this three-year pilot program provides compelling evidence that the lives of children can be significantly improved through targeted child-maltreatment preventive services. The report, Minnesota Parent Support Outreach Program Evaluation, looks at the PSOP initiative launched in 2005 and piloted in 38 Minnesota counties. Follow this
link to view the report.

New Period of Purple Crying Website

Purple

The National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome has announced that they have launched a new website for the Period of PURPLE Crying Program. It is designed for parents and has a parent magazine theme. This website is very different from most websites for two reasons: 1) It is based on scientific studies and the articles are written by authors who are the leading experts and scientists in their field; and 2) it has been designed to be a comfortable place for parents and caregivers to get more information about their baby, especially the baby who is crying a lot. It is interactive with video throughout and lots of images. Parents will find out about this website through a media campaign and on the materials they get at the hospital. The website is www.purplecrying.info.
