The Spectrum of Prevention

Today's children are tomorrow's leaders. All of society thrives when children grow into healthy, caring and contributing adults. Ensuring the strength of our future leaders will take all of our efforts - from policymakers, teachers, care providers, business owners, media, parents, me, and you - we set the foundation for a strong future when we create environments where all children thrive. The spectrum of prevention, developed by the Prevention Institute, helps describe how we all can help with this.

Prevention Institute explains, "The Spectrum of Prevention helps expand prevention efforts beyond education models by promoting a multifaceted range of activities for effective prevention. Originally developed by Larry Cohen while he was director of the Contra Costa Health Services Prevention Program, the Spectrum is based on the work of Dr. Marshall Swift in treating developmental disabilities. It has been used nationally in prevention initiatives targeting traffic safety, violence prevention, injury prevention, nutrition, and fitness."
