Let's Vote for Kids!

Dear Friends,

As we send out this email, many of you will be heading out to vote or returning from voting. We would like to say thank you. And for those of you who haven't had the time to vote yet, we would like to ask, "What are you waiting for?" Even though PCAMN does not endorse candidates or belong to any political parties, we definitely support voting - voting for the candidates of your choice and hopefully for candidates that rank children high on their priority list. Strengthening families and preventing child abuse is a bipartisan issue. It takes all of us to work together.

Great information about election issues surrounding children can be found at www.childrensdefense.org and www.everychildmatters.org.

If you have a minute, check these websites out, and then take a stroll over to your polls. America's children will thank you, too.

Thanks Giving from PCAMN Staff

"I am thankful for all of our wonderful PCAMN staff, members of Child Abuse Prevention Councils, our funders and partners, our Board and volunteers, and those in our state who truly commit to keeping our children safe by strengthening families and creating more supportive communities. Our children will be better off because of your work." - Connie Skillingstad, Executive Director

"I am thankful to all those who participate in Circle of ParentsŪ by volunteering their time and energy to make sure that parents help each other support their families. I am thankful to those who work behind the scenes to organize these efforts and I am thankful for parents who utilize these services to help strengthen their families." - Trina Levin, Family Support Services Director

"I am thankful for the Minnesota Work-Life Champions who are helping employers re-think work to be family friendly. Employers who honor workers' family time reduce the stress that many feel trying to balance work and family. Reduced stress helps increase parental resilience. Parental resilience is one of the 5 protective factors proven to reduce child abuse and neglect. Employers who provide concrete supports for families (day care access, employee assistance, etc.) are contributing to another protective factor grounded in research. Turns out employment practices that promote work-life health are a win-win: Employers promoting work-life practice find their workforce to be more effective." - Becky Dale, Associate Director

"I want to thank the advisory teams, facilitators, and volunteers of all of the Circle of Parents groups for their dedication and commitment to promoting healthy families within their communities." - Mary Weaver, Western Minnesota Regional Program Coordinator

"I want to thank all the people who put their hearts, minds, efforts and going the extra mile into nurturing, protecting, raising, teaching, and loving children." - Ka Youa Vue, Prevention Program Coordinator

"I would like to thank my parents for modeling for their children and grandchildren how to raise strong, healthy, and supportive children even when times were difficult. They set a standard that we as parents have tried to live up to." - Alice O. Lynch, Metro Regional Program Coordinator

NAPSAC ~ Ending the Sexual Abuse of Children in Three Generations
America's children desperately need your help. Most of us are unaware that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday. Shockingly, 85 percent of these children are abused by someone they or their family knows and trusts. Sadly, because of the 'taboo' nature along with trauma, fear, shame, misplaced loyalty and distrust associated with abuse, only ten percent of victims and survivors ever find the courage to report this crime. Government statistics estimate that there are approximately 60 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in America today. As American taxpayers we spend more than $103 billion each year on costs associated with child abuse. These facts strongly support the reality that childhood sexual abuse has reached national epidemic proportions that affect each and every one of us. Visit http://www.napsac.us.
