The Art and Importance of Storytelling in Black History..... through women's eyes!
2pm, Saturday, February 28th in honor of Black History Month
Renowned ancestral storyteller, psycho-dramatist, and spiritual healer Alyce Smith-Cooper will weave her magical tales using the intricate quilts of Jacquelyn Hughes Mooney, a native of New Orleans, a "visual poet", who creates vibrant, jazzy contemporary quilted textile collages, collected by the rich and famous.
As well, Author and Chair of the Black History Studies Department at Mesa College, Starla Lewis with discuss her Sunkisses Activity Book which
she created in 1982 after her
three daughters questioned why they didn't see images of themselves reflected
in books and television.
