Garden Leadership Training- Winter 2011

Our former tongue twister (Communities & Schools Garden Development Institute or CSGDI) is renamed to simply 'Garden Leadership Training'. GLT is for any group wishing to make the most of a community gardening effort. Identify resources, networks and potential partnerships, learn start up basics for organizing, site assessment, garden planning and design, soil testing, and more. New this year: break out modules for schools, community gardens and Faith and Food giving gardens, addressing issues and resources unique to each. Classes to be held late February and March 2011. Start talking with your group about who to send. Stay tuned to the next E-blast from Growing Hope for details. Contact Wendy at Growing Hope (734)786-8401 to get on the list or ask questions.

Meet the new faces, and...
Re-connect with Growing Hope!
Hello Growing Hope Volunteers,

Happy Holidays! These past few weeks Growing Hope has gone through some exciting staff changes including the addition of 6 new VISTAs and a full-time Outreach and Volunteer Manager. Casey and I have been working very hard to familiarize ourselves with our new positions, and have enjoyed beginning to meet the folks who keep this organization going strong- you! In our  process of getting to know you, we will be emailing, calling, and sending out a Volunteer Update Survey to make sure Growing Hope has your most recent contact info and volunteer skills/interests. Please be on the look out for the surveys after the New Year; they will continue to help build our database capacity and allow you to have more enjoyable volunteer experience! Please contact us if you have any questions or are looking to get re-engaged with Growing Hope.

Looking forward to working with you soon!

-Arika, Outreach & Volunteer Manager
-Casey, Volunteer Coordinator
Volunteers needed to work with youth!
Would you love the opportunity to help cultivate healthy cooking and eating skills in youth? We are recruiting and training dedicated volunteers to support our dynamic nutrition education through
gardening program at Ypsilanti Middle School.   After-school programming begins in early February and meets weekly throughout the spring. Please contact us for more information about how to get involved in the fun!
Join us at Growing Hope's MLK Day of Service!
We invite you to join us in participating in the MLK Day of Service on Mon. Jan 17th, calling for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

Help improve people's lives and communities through gardening and healthy food access by volunteering to build and assemble raised bed garden kits in preparation for the spring! Kits will help empower and support people from all walks of life, grow healthy food right in their backyards next year! Comfort working as a team and using tools is required. Contact us if interested.
