| Growing Hope is accepting applications for volunteer service on it's board of directors and committees!
Our board of directors primary responsibilities are Fundraising, Ambassadorship, & Governance. If you're ready to dig in and raise financial and other support for the organization, connect & spread the word about GH in the community, or lending financial/legal/managment skills to the organization, please apply! Our board also has a lot of fun as they work to grow and sustain our blossoming organization. We're also accepting non-board committee members in fund development. If you are ready to jump into philanthropy or share your experience in raising financial resources, consider joining one of our teams. Our Growing Hope Fund Development and Growing Hope Center Capital Campaign committees are accepting applications for membership! If you are interested in applying to be a board or committee member, email your resume and a brief note about your interest to amanda@growinghope.net.

Sustainable Food Systems Tour & A Concert Both Coming Up in July!
We need your volunteer support for Tour de Fresh & the Jack Johnson concert!
| | Planning is underway for Tour de Fresh! This year's annual tour of Ypsilanti sustainable urban agriculture and healthy food systems on Tuesday, July 20th. The evening tour will begin at the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market and will culminate in a potluck at our urban farm under development, the Growing Hope Center-- see gardens, urban farms, chickens, bees, and more in community, business and homes in our area! We need your help-- join the planning team or help on the day or evening of the event. Fill out our Volunteer Application if you haven't before, or if you're already a registered volunteer email jeremy@growinghope.net to get involved.
Also needed are a few lucky volunteers to represent Growing Hope at the Jack Johnson concert at the DTE Music Theater on July 20th! See the show for free after tabling with many other regional organizations-- last year's volunteers got to meet Jack Johnson! Attend the Sat. June 12th Annual Twilght Benefit Gala
| | The Twilight Foundation Community Leadership Awards recognize individuals and organizations whose leadership has made a significant impact in their particular Detroit metro area communities. This work may confront societal or civic issues, address health or environmental concerns, or promote arts and humanities. This year our very own Executive Director Amanda Edmonds will be honored as one of ten community leaders that will receive awards at the Twilight Foundation Gala on Sat. June 12th! Other honorees include Charles Pugh and Mike Babcock. For more information about the award or the event, go to their website to learn more! If you'd like to purchase a ticket to attend the benefit, please let amanda@growinghope.net know so you can be seated at a table of people there to recognize the honoring of our Executive Director. The Twilight Foundation and tickets to this event benefit research to end childhood leukemia.

The Birthday Party celebration at the Growing Hope Center last weekend was one you didn't want to miss! Thanks toSilvio and his family and crew from Silvio's Organic Pizza, we fired up the adobe oven and ate delicous fresh baked pizza topped with freshly harvested greens from the hoophouse! Followed by snacking on desserts and drinks from Terry's Bakery, Old World Bakery & Bombadill's Neighborhood Coffee House. 
Thank you also to the the University of Michigan School of Social Work Alumni volunteers who helped prepare the Growing Hope Center for the big event and everyone who donated and participated in our silent auction. Thanks, too, to GH alum Dan Bair and GH Board & VISTA members for their volunteer support to make the event happen! Thank you all for contributing and supporting Growing Hope to make our work possible!

| Vegetable Garden Installation Program Still Accepting Applications!
Do you need gardening support this season? | | We still have a few open slots for our Free Raised Beds Installs and free seedlings for low-income and no-income households! In exchange, participants are asked to weigh & track their harvests for the growing season. We have already built over 60 garden beds with over 20 households this spring!
To apply to the program or request free seeds or seedlings, call Wendy at 786-8401 or fill out the Growing Gardens application for individuals/ households, and we'll be in touch if space and supplies are still available! |
Looking for a Place to Grow this Season? Community Garden Plots Still Available in Parkridge Park @ Perry and Midtown Garden!
| | Good news everybody - it's not to late to grab some garden space this year! There is over 750 sq feet of new community garden space available at the new and improved Perry/Parkridge Community Garden - located between the Perry Child Development Center and Parkridge Park in Ypsilanti's Southside. Raised beds are divided into 4 x 4 plots and individuals can have up to three plots, and groups up to six. Plot fees are $3 - $10 on a sliding scale.

Will Allen Coming to Detroit & D-Town Farm June 4th-June 6th!
| | On Friday June 4, 2010, Will Allen, a nationally and internationally recognized leader on food security, and urban agriculture will be in lecture at Nsoroma Institute in Detroit from 7pm-9pm. Admission is $20. On Saturday June 5 and Sunday June 6, from 9am-6pm each day, he will lead workshops on hoop house construction and vermicomposting at Growing Power's Regional Outreach Training Center Detroit Facility, D-Town Farm. Over 40 middle school students participated in our after-school gardening and nutrition education program, Seed 2 Plate, at East and West Middle Schools in Ypsilanti from February through May this year!
The program culminated in a field trip to the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market where youth talked to local farmers and took home vegetable seedlings!
