Seed Starting Squad Gets Ready for Spring!

Always wanted to grow your own seedlings but didn't know where to start? Become a member of our Seed Starting Squad! hope's harvest image

Growing Hope needs volunteers willing to raise healthy seedlings in their homes.  Sign up for one of our workday dates (February 20th, March 6th, or March 20th) and borrow or purchase a light stand.You'll have room for two trays of your own seedlings and two for Growing Hope. Sign up today to be a member of the Seed Starting Squad by filling out our survey and a staff person will contact you soon.

Beezy's has a full breakfast menu and lots of delicious hot drinks to warm you up on these snowy February days.  So shovel out and bring your appetite for a hearty farmer breakfast full of discussion with others interested in urban agriculture, community self-reliance, healthy food and sustainability.
Community & School Garden Development Institute, Present Their Garden Plans, Feb 18
The Community and School Garden Development Institute 2010 winter class is almost over! 14 community, school, and congregation groups have been crowding into our teaching space at SPARK East in Ypsilanti to learn and share ways to develop affordable and csgdi2sustainable gardens.  This year's record-breaking size group is learning how to map their assets, set their goals, articulate their projects to others, and build their group's infrastructure.

We're looking forward to their garden presentations during the last session on February 18th. You are invited to their presentation night from 6:30-8:30pm!  Feel free to drop in!

Just a Few of our Volunteer Opportunities
Growing Hope is looking for helpful hands!

We are looking for help cleaning and sterilizing seed trays and building light stands for our 2010 Seed Starting Squad.  Please note these initial volunteers will receive top priority in joining this year's Squad!

Feeling crafty!?  We're looking for some help designing interactive games for our tabling events.  Vegetable bean bags, a spinning wheel with gardening tips--any
ideas?  Send them our way.

We are also looking for a volunteer auto mechanic to do some work on the Growing Hope truck, and are always in need of both skilled and unskilled labor at the Growing Hope Center.

Earthworks Announces new Agriculture Training program which will train Detroiters in all aspects of urban food production.
