Heritage Fest: This Weekend!

Growing Hope will be hosting Peppers imageactivities at this year's Heritage Fest, August 21-23. Join us and our friends from the Ypsi Food Co-op, Bike Ypsi, the Thomason Family Farm, and other folks from "Local Motion" for the parade on Saturday morning, and help represent Growing Hope by signing up to dress as farmers, vegetables, or anything else-- kids & adults, bicycles or not, all welcome!!  Sign up with amanda@growinghope.net.
 
On Saturday afternoon, we'lll be holding our second annual Four Square Tournament. We need more teams, so contact ashley@growinghope.net right away to get involved! (Note: The seed-spitting contest and ugliest vegetable competition have been cancelled).

Heritage Garden Tour this Saturday!

Raised beds imageThe Ypsi Garden Club is holding it's annual Heritage Garden Tour this Saturday, August 22 from 12-5 pm. The tour features six beautiful gardens, plus the Growing Hope Center as a bonus location. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Mantis Pet Supply, Bombadills, Apple Annie's Vintage Clothing and Salt City Antiques. Even if you cannot do the tour, stop by Growing Hope during the Garden Tour to see our gardens! 
Whole Foods Healthy Chef Challenge
Friday September 18, 6pm-8pm at Whole Foods on hope's harvest imageWashtenaw Ave. It's live and it's local in our mezzanine classroom!  Join the judges, Linda Yohn of WEMU 89.1 FM, Radio Free Bacon host Rob Reinhart, Kitchen Chick Lisa Leutheuser, Chef Kelli Lewton-Secondino of 2 Unique Caterers & Event Planners and Jay Haamen of A Knife's Work for an exclusive live cook off event between our two Healthy Chef Challenge Finalists. Watch each chef prepare their original entrée fresh and healthy recipe using special local ingredients. Taste their work and vote for your favorite along with the judges. Ticket Fee of $50.00 will benefit Growing Hope. Purchase tickets by calling Growing Hope, 734-786-8401 Seating is limited, please call early.
Tour de Fresh: Tuesday, September 15

Growing Hope is hosting Tour de Fresh, our 3rd annual Ypsi-area garden & sustainable food system tour on Tuesday, September 15th from 5-8:30 pm.  This is a great opportunity to highlight the work that so many partners in the Growing Hope Community have done, and to inspire others to take part in community & school gardening, urban agriculture, and other ways folks are growing food for themselves & neighbors!  We will meet at 5 pm at the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmer's Market and end at the Growing Hope Center for a potluck.  Please RSVP to ashley@growinghope.net or call (734) 786 -8401.

Hope's Harvest Volunteers Needed
Growing Hope needs volunteers for its 5th Annual Hope's Harvest dinner on Sunday, September 20th. We need your help to make everything run smoothly and ensure its success. Volunteers are especially needed for cleanup directly after dinner, as well as prep on Friday & Saturday. This event is always fun, so sign up early for a volunteer slot! Community Gardening Class  Begins October 8th!

Growing Hope's Community and School Garden Development Institute (CSGDI) is a free 5-session class on starting your own community garden. Classes are held Thursday evenings from 6-8 pm, October 8 - November 12 (no class on Nov. 5). Each group must have at least 5 commited members. If attending a hands-on highly interactive course on planning a community garden interests you please fill out our preliminary survey, or email ashley@growinghope.net!
 
Free Entry to the Big House Big Heart Race!
Raise money for Growing Hope by running or walking in the Big House Big Heart race this October! The first 20 people who are interested in raising pledges for Growing Hope will have their $32 entry fees PAID by Suburban Chevrolet Cadillac Saab Hummer of Ann Arbor! If you are interested in this, please print out your entry form, fill it out, and send it to Growing Hope, PO Box 980129, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, attention Kristen Cuhran.
