Hope's Harvest Volunteers Needed!
hope's harvest imageGrowing Hope needs volunteers for its 5th Annual Hope's Harvest dinner on Sunday, September 20th. We need your help to make everything run smoothly and ensure its success. Volunteers are especially needed for cleanup directly after dinner, as well as prep on Friday and Saturday. This event is always fun, so sign up early for a volunteer slot! Learn to Build an Adobe Oven
This Friday and Saturday!

Landscaping for the Heart & Soul is working with us to construct an outdoor Adobe oven at the Growing Hope Center!  Come and join us for a series of classes that will include instruction on design, site considerations, foundations, base construction, hearth and oven building, and final plaster. The base and hearth are built, and now comes the fun part!  The third class in a series of five will be happening this Friday and Saturday, August 7 and 8, rain or shine. Come prepared to get dirty and work hard! Heritage Fest: August 21-23 Paraders, Spitters, & Volunteers Needed! 

Growing Hope will be hosting Veggiesseveral activities at this year's Heritage Fest! Join us and our friends from the Ypsi Food Co-op, Bike Ypsi, the Thomason Family Farm, and other folks from "Local Motion" for the parade on Saturday morning, and help represent Growing Hope by signing up to dress as farmers, vegetables, or anything else-- kids & adults, bicycles or not, all welcome!!  Sign up with [email protected].
 
On Saturday afternoon, we'lll be holding a first annual Watermelon Seed-spitting Contest, a Four Square Tournament, a Mystery Herb and Veggie Smelling and Tasting Contest, and a Vegetable Competition, where your unusual vegetable can win in several categories - including Ugliest and Most Resembles Something! Get involved, or register to participate!  We need a few good folks to help us out!  E-mail [email protected] if you would like to help!
Benefit Dinner for Growing Hope
Tammy CoxenOn Saturday, August 8th, local chef Tammy Coxen of Tammy's Tastings will be hosting a supper club event to benefit Growing Hope! She will be offering an 8-course tasting menu, designed to highlight seasonal and local food. A donation of $50 is requested per person, and will directly benefit Growing Hope! If you'd like to reserve one of the 8 spaces for this benefit dinner, please e-mail [email protected]. Tammy is happy to accommodate a variety of food restrictions, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegetarian - just e-mail her your preferences when you reserve your space!

Celebrate National Farmers' Market Week by visiting the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market this Tuesday from 2-7 pm in the Key Bank Parking lot, on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Hamilton!
 
Give Bees a Chance!
As of July 21st, 2009 urban chickens are legal in Ypsilanti! We're not stopping there - help Growing Hope and Ypsilanti community members fight for beekeeping! If you keep honeybees, would like to, or know a beekeeper, please consider attending the council meeting on Aug 18, 7 pm at City Hall. 
 
Free Entry to the Big House Big Heart Race!
Raise money for Growing Hope by running or walking in the Big House Big Heart race this October! The first 20 people who are interested in raising pledges for Growing Hope will have their $32 entry fees PAID by Suburban Chevrolet Cadillac Saab Hummer of Ann Arbor!
