Big Community Harvest Garden Tour

Wednesday, July 22,  6-9 pm
Saturday, August 1, 10 am-1 pm

A display of Washtenaw County gardens that increase low- income people's access to fresh, local and hope's harvest imagenutritious foods, as championed by Food Gatherers and funded through the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation Big Idea/Pfizer Grant. Partners include Growing Hope, Project Grow, Avalon Housing, Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice, and many area faith communities. Click here for a list of gardens on the tour! This is a self- guided tour. Stop at one or all of the sites in any order.
Each location will feature a different aspect of the Big Community Harvest project, with some offering discussion on ways to create and sustain a community garden, build raised beds, keep out critters, involve youth and seniors, extend the growing season, etc.  Half of all produce is donated to meal programs, food banks, and neighbors. For more information, download the flyer and call (734) 786-8401 or e-mail faithandfood@growinghope.net

They are currently leading the SYEP youth in planning and starting their own 9-week business this summer. They are pictured below at Spark East, working with the SYEP to decide what their business will sell. Ideas so far include worm bins, herbal teas and a fish pond!
