| Meet the Vendor: Tony Scampa |
|
Tony Scampa has been a vendor at the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers Market for the past two years. He sells a variety of fresh vegetables that are grown at his farm in downtown Bridgewater, MI. Tony loves growing food organically, and trying out new plants - most recently sorrel, a leafy plant with a stem that tastes like tart apple.
Tony has been farming for around twenty years, although he has not always been a farmer by trade. His first garden was a rental in Ann Arbor in the late 80's, as part of a community garden. After a serendipitous chain of events and many years, farming has now become central in his career and lifestyle. He enjoys selling at the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers Market, partly because of the broad diversity of shoppers that come through. His favorite vegetable to grow is kohlrabi. Pick some up at Tony's booth this week, and use it with the kohlrabi recipes on our website! |
