Join the Faith and Food Initiative Get Your Congregation Growing for Good
|
Through the Faith and Food Initiative, a partnership among Growing Hope, Food Gatherers, and Interfaith Council for Peace & Justice, Growing Hope will work with congregations in Washtenaw County who want to grow produce to feed neighbors in need in our communities. The congregation may have a garden on-site at their place of worship, or they may collectively donate harvest from individual home gardens. In any case, Faith and Food assists in planning and organizing to maximize the yield of healthy food to donate to Food Gatherers. We're still identifying congregations for our pilot program in 2009. For more information or to participate in the program, please contact Merilynne at faithandfood@growinghope.net.

Mechanic & Yard Signs... ???
|
Are you handy with vehicles? Growing Hope needs someone to take a look at the beater truck we use for Farmers' Market, compost hauling, and more. We'll pay for any parts, and would like someone to at least do a diagnosis of the most important things to fix this spring. Can you look under the hood for us?
We're also needing recycled yard signs (think polictical campaigns of old) that we'll repurpose into farmers market signs. We'll take 1 or 100-- just drop a line!
Let us know if you can help at info@growinghope.net.

Four Square Society Gets Fresh Compost GH To Build 40 Raised Gardens in 2009 with Low-Income Families!
|
Growing Hope's Four Square Society, an initiative started last year to better understand the role small-plot, urban gardening can play in improving our community's access to fresh fruits and veggies, has been awarded a two-year grant from the University of Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research. The grant will make it possible for us to build, support and fully evaluate the success of forty new Four Square Society Members in the yards of low-income and no-income households. Families will grow yummy veggies & herbs in three 4' x 4' raised beds, and be paired with a garden mentor if they're new to growing. What's that? You might like more free, homegrown-yummy fruits and veggies in you life this summer? And you have sunny space for three 4'x4' raised beds? Download the flyer here and apply before May 1! Email ryan@growinghope.net, or give us a call to talk about it. |
