Seed Starting Squad is Underway! |

Thanks to everyone who signed up for our Seed Starting Squad! We were overwhelmed by over 80 responses from all you green-thumbs or green-thumbs-to-be, and are working to accommodate as many of you as we can in borrowing or buying set ups to start seeds for us and you both! Even if we can't get a set-up to you, you can still help out at our next two assembly and planting days-- where you can learn how to build a set up at your own home. Join us tomorrow-- March 14 from 10 am- 2 pm at the Growing Hope Center, and again from 10 am-2 pm on March 28! RSVP to kelly@growinghope.net.
At our first build on Saturday, February 28th, volunteers built indoor grow light set-ups and helped get our hoophouse ready for spring. Fifteen Seed Starters were able to start growing flats of kale, parsely, lettuce and other crops, which will be planted at the Growing Hope Center, sold at the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market, and donated to partner gardens.

Mark Your Calendars to Show Your Ypsilanti PRIDE in May! Nominate sites needing TLC today!
|
Join us as we celebrate Ypsi PRIDE's 15th anniversary on Saturday, May 16 and help to clean up and steward your favorite Ypsilanti location. Growing Hope has been on the PRIDE planning team for several years now, helping the event transition from a one-day blast to longer-term stewardship of our public spaces. In 2009, in partnership with the Ypsi Parks & Recreation Commission, PRIDE day will also mark the launch of the City's new Adopt-A-Park Program. Look for more info in April about that program.
The PRIDE team is looking for site nominations for public sites that need a little TLC. Check out the brand new website to find up-to-date information and to make a site nomination. Then, sign up yourself or your team to participate! We'll see you there on May 16th, 2009 from 9 am to 2 pm! |
