Sunday, October 19, 3:33 pm at the Corner Brewery, after Bike Ypsi Fall Ride. Hullabaloo is a local 5-9 piece band featuring our own GH staffer Terry.  They play a variety of high-energy dance music-- a cornucopia of locally grown sound. Come here them play for GH!

2008 Tour De Fresh!

HAVE YOU RESERVED YOUR SPOT YET?  We did a dry-run of the bicycle version of the tour yesterday, and think you'll be excited to see the sites next week!  You'll see the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers Market, the famed goats & chickens at the Thomason Family Farm (an urban microfarm!), where GH began in 2000 at the Perry Learning Garden, GH's future at the Growing Hope Center, the brand new Gateway Community Garden, Midtown Community Garden, reclaimed materials and creativity at the Frog Island Community Garden, how a garden fits into neighborhood revitalization at the West Willow Community Garden, and end for supper at the brand new Matt's Community Garden.  If you've been meaning to get involved and learn about GH, this is your chance!  Our second annual tour of Ypsilanti-area community gardens and urban agriculture is September 16th!  Sign in for Tour De Fresh begins at 4:30pm at our Downtown Ypsilanti Farmers' Market  (MI Ave and Hamilton). YES, WE'RE HIRING RIGHT NOW!
We're recruiting several full-time Americorps*VISTA volunteers who will give their service to Growing Hope from mid-November 2008 through mid-November 2009.  VISTAs receive a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a $4750 (at the end of the 12 months) education award that can pay back students loans or be credited towards future education of any kind.  Currently, we are recruiting VISTA members for the following areas of focus: Farmers Market Manager, Fundraising/Capital Campaign/Grant Writing and Marketing/Outreach, Community Organizing, & Organic Farm Manager.  Applications due September 19; see the position descriptions and application instructions here!
Hope's Harvest is September 21!
We know you've been meaning to get your ticket-- why don't you just go ahead and do it now?  Imagine Sunday afternoon in early fall surrounded by garden and growth, sampling Hope's Harvest Flyerdishes of local foods prepared by local chefs from such restaurants as eve, Zingerman's, Tower Inn, Carson's American Bistro, and many more, including renowned chef Benjamin Meyer who will be on site at the event!  We hope you'll join us for the Fourth Annual Hope's Harvest on Sunday September 21st from 4:00pm-7:00pm, for the first time to be held at the new Growing Hope Center!   Tickets are now available at Click & Pledge for $50, $75, and $100!  Also, there are a few coveted volunteer positions still open for the event-- email karen@growinghope.net right away if interested, and get to come for free!

Friday, September 12, 9 am- 5 pm at the Perry Learning Garden.  Help us spruce up (and reclaim from the weeds!) this garden so it can be a learning resource for the kindergarteners!
Saturday, September 13, 9 am- 6 pm.  Want to join the Growing Hope booth at the HomeGrown Fest in Ann Arbor, or the Dierdra Currie Festival at Washtenaw Community College?  It's hard for us to be two places at once, and you can help us out!
Monday, September 15, 5-7:30 pm at the Growing Hope Center. Move woodchips, plant seeds, paint signs, and more as we get the place ready for Tour de Fresh and Hope's Harvest!
Friday, September 19, noon- 5 pm at Parkridge Park (next to the Perry Learning Garden).  Join the Ypsilanti Health Coalition in improving the park!
Saturday, September 20, 1-5 pm at the Growing Hope Center
Friday, September 26, 8 am- 2 pm at the Growing Hope Center.  It's Hoophouse time!!  Help us get the plastic over our giant structure to keep our plants warm for the winter!
