 AABC Alumni Society LogoGreetings!

Greetings from The All-American Boys Chorus!

We're delighted by the response from alumni to our first email newsletter!  We heard from some alums who have been out of touch for years!

And, oh yes, drum roll please!  The alumnus who was the first to correctly guess the place and year of our February "photo memory" is . . . Johnal Leifsson! ('98)  The place was the Columbia Icefields in Canada and the year was 1995, during the summer tour.  Congratulations Johnal; please let us know if you'd like two VIP tickets to our May 20th spring concert or a set of all five AABC CDs.

March is Jog-a-Thon month!  Most AABC alumni know what the Jog-a-Thon is, but for those of you whose AABC careers pre-date 1983, see the story below.

Please send us your comments, suggestions and, most important of all, updates on what's going on with YOU so we can share it with fellow alums!

Read on . . .

AABC 2007 Jog-a-Thon

Music in Motion!

On Saturday, March 17th, our 120 choristers will participate in the AABC's biggest annual fundraiser--our Jog-a-Thon.  Begun in 1983, the Jog-a-Thon is a true embodiment of teamwork and dedication.

For the last two months our boys have been signing up "sponsors" who have either pledged a flat donation or a "per lap" donation.

On March 17th, the boys will run, jog, walk (or crawl) as many 220-yard laps as possible in a 1-hour period at the Davis School track in Costa Mesa.

There's an intense contest amongst the four singing parts, with the Part that averages the highest dollars per boy winning a 2-day trip to southern California theme parks.

This year, in an effort to reach our "ultimate" goal of $100,000, ALL AABC staff members are participating in the Jog-A-Thon.  That's Wesley Martin, Tony Manrique ('72), Aaron Cassaro ('95), Andy Serrano ('95), Pierre Calderon ('04), Sean Cruz ('03), Peter Raia ('05) and Greg Ward ('05).

If you'd like to sponsor a boy from your former singing Part, or Tony, Wesley or any staff member, email us your name and your pledge amount!  Best of all, come cheer us on at the Davis School track from  1 to 4 pm on March 17th!

AABC Spring Tour

We're Wisconsin, Ohio and Kentucky bound!

March 23rd will find 32 boys and 6 staff members (including two teachers), boarding a plane bound for Chicago; where they'll meet up with our AABC bus and truck and start an exciting concert tour of Wisconsin, Ohio and Kentucky.

The boys will perform in Verona and Hartford, Wisconsin; Bucyrus, Columbus and Van Wert, Ohio; and in Richmond, Kentucky.  In addition to the evening concerts, the boys will also perform music outreach concerts for school children in some of the cities.

If you live near these cities, or have friends or relatives who do, visit the AABC website, www.taabc.org (click on "Concerts/Events/People" and then on "Concert Schedule" for information on each concert hall and tickets).

Summer Tour Help

Pacific Northwest and Western Canada

We're working hard to put together our 2007 summer tour.  We'll be heading north around July 20 and are looking for concerts in Northern California, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alberta.  We plan to be in the Canadian Rockies the first week of August, and then we want to head home via Montana, Idaho, Utah and Nevada.  If you live in, or know of, a city that does summer-time concerts, or if there's a theater or church that might be willing to arrange a concert, please be in touch with Tony Manrique at a.manrique@taabc.org or (714) 708-1670 x11.

PHOTO MEMORIES

Where & when? Do you know?  The first alumnus to email us with the correct place and year for this photo wins his choice of two VIP tickets to our spring concert or a set of all 5 AABC CDs!  Good luck!

CARMEN 2007

AABC choristers pose with AABC alumnus Tim Proctor ('90) who is in the Opera Pacific chorus.

Carmen

Kind of Cool!   When the current group of AABC choristers who are performing in Carmen put on the costumes provided by Opera Pacific, they saw the names of the previous wearers--Granelli, Cruz, Okoorian, Morinaka, Raymond, Long-Lerno, Cottrell and more--all of them AABC alumni who performed in Carmen in 2001!  Apparently  the AABC "owns" the roles of the street boys in Carmen in Orange County!

Remember . . . keep in touch, forward this newsletter to other AABC alumni and encourage them to send us their updated email addresses, snail-mail addresses and phone numbers.  Check the AABC website www.taabc.org frequently for updates about concerts, tours and events.

The All-American Boys Chorus is the result of the hard work and effort and unselfish sacrifices made by you and by all of our alumni.  Your dedication helped form the AABC into a world-class institution.  Your continued interest and involvement will ensure our future.

Gratefully, The All-American Boys Chorus
