Tell the White House and the DOL We Can't Wait for Our Rights

tracy and obama at the FLSA fix announcement Last December, I was invited to Washington, D.C. to stand with President Obama as he announced a proposed rule to extend minimum wage and overtime protections to us home care workers. (That's me in the photo behind the President's shoulder, fourth from the right.) The rule was part of the We Can't Wait initiative, in which the President is bypassing our gridlocked Congress by taking executive action to help America's struggling middle class.

The President is right: We home care workers can't wait any longer for these basic labor protections. For years, we have been excluded from Fair Labor Standards Act protections. Now is the time for that injustice to end.

In collaboration with PHI, NELP, Caring Across Generations, and many other organizations, we have launched a petition to remind the White House and DOL that they must enact the rule now. Please join me and sign the petition.

We can't wait!

The Direct Care Alliance is the national advocacy voice of direct care workers in long-term care. We empower workers to speak out for better wages, benefits, respect, and working conditions, so more people can commit to direct care as a career. We also convene powerful allies nationwide to build consensus for change.
