Greetings!,

Enjoy the latest news from Instituto!
Our 30th Year is Here!30 Years Newsletter Image

In 1977, our community set out to create a space where Latina/o immigrants and their children could find social and educational support.  30 years later, Instituto is a leading city and state organization providing a wealth of services to meet both community and industry demands.  Instituto has, and will continue to thrive in an era of growth and progress.  Our adult learners move forward with innovative career training and educational services, while our youth are inspired to pursue their dreams through the principles of social justice.  Our mission is backed by an impressive board, a dedicated staff and a community that understands the value of hard work.  Education is power, and Instituto is the fuel to that power.

Instituto Renovation Continues with ARQUITECTOS

IDPL CourtyardOver the years, the demand for Instituto's services in workforce and youth development, citizenship preparation and education has grown exponentially.  Arquitectos, The Society of Hispanic Professional Architects, has teamed with Instituto to design a renovation project that will substantially improve Instituto's ability to provide high quality educational programs in its current environment.

The project itself will include clearing the lobby area to create an open space, moving the reception area to a room adjoining the lobby and building a functional counter.  A timeline will be designed on the main lobby wall, creating a beautiful homage to donors and recognizing the value of all contributions.  We will also renovate the multi-purpose room, paint classrooms and offices in a color-coordinated, Latina/o inspired theme, and redesign the courtyard space.

Carreras Starts New Year with Major Support

30 Years Newsletter ImageCarreras en Salud: A Chicago Bilingual Healthcare Initiative has started the new fiscal year with a bang!  Two foundations, the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation and the Polk Bros. Foundation, have each awarded Instituto with major grants to ensure the nationally recognized program continues to uniquely address Latina/o access to quality careers in healthcare.  Support from the Lloyd A. Fry Foundation and Polk Bros. Foundation sends a compelling message: Addressing industry demands must start at the local level by providing working people and community based organizations with the opportunity to develop human capital.  The Lloyd A. Fry Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to this effort by investing $150,000 in Carreras over the next 2 years, and the Polk Bros. Foundation has committed $40,000 to the program.  Thank You!

KEY Summer Program Kicks Off!

30 Years Newsletter Image

Instituto's Keep Educating Youth (KEY) summer program kicked off on June 25th and promises to provide its participants with an exciting summer.  The goal of the program is to keep children academically engaged after school hours, as well as provide a positive environment that allows for leadership and personal development.  The summer program runs Monday thru Thursday, from 9am to 5pm, and Friday from 9am to 3pm with a diverse age range of children.

Participants have an opportunity to build on their math, reading and creative writing skills.  The program is complimented by weekly community service projects, such as neighborhood cleanups, and a field trip to Brookfield Zoo, where the children are challenged with a scavenger hunt for answers related to the zoo's many wonders.
