Carreras Continues to Gain National Traction

Carreras GradCarreras en Salud: A Bi-lingual Healthcare Bridge Program was featured in May's issue of Nursing Spectrum, a national magazine addressing issues in Nursing and Healthcare.  Carreras continues into its third year.  The program is recognized as a pioneer model for connecting the workforce and linguistic demands of a promising industry with our community's desire to advance through hard work and education.  This desire has translated into success and Carreras is a testament to the collaborative efficiency of community-based organizations, local colleges, policy advocates and expert researchers.

AmeriCorps Volunteers Prepare for Miami

AmeriCoprs Soup KitchenThe AmeriCorps volunteer program brings together a multi-generational group that supports Instituto's services.  Their commitment to civic engagement inspires our participants to reach their fullest potential. This year they've played an active role in event programming in-and outside of Instituto.  AmeriCorps volunteers have partnered with the Little Village Chamber of Commerce for their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, organized a mini-festival at Instituto for El Día del Niño, and continue to volunteer at the St. Pius V Church soup kitchen.

Currently, our AmeriCorps volunteers are fundraising to attend the 2007 National Council of La Raza Conference held in Miami, Florida.  The conference presents an opportunity to expand their knowledge of community advocacy and help facilitate their growth as future industry leaders.  So far, they've raised over $3,500, a little less than half of their goal.

Latinas/os Believe in Camino al Futuro

AmeriCoprs Soup KitchenThis year, Instituto embarked on its first ever community giving campaign.  Camino al Futuro set an ambitious goal of raising $300,000 by connecting with corporations, staff, participants and alumni.  Our various departments each set out to meet specific goals that would contribute to the overall campaign.  Camino's success thus far has proven that even though our students are of modest means, they are willing to invest in their organization.  This kind of ownership drives Instituto's role as a champion of Latina/o advancement.

Camino has received support form a diverse group of private investors.  Companies like JPMorgan Chase gave $20,000 to Camino, while Lara Rios, a relative of one of Instituto's staff, made the largest individual contribution in Instituto's history.  Our student body has also made a compelling statement regarding how and why they invest.  As our fiscal year comes to a close, Camino's average giving is approximately $55, about $6 higher than the average giving amount for comparable communities.
