Rae's Yarn Boutique is now Fragrance Free As many off you already know I (as well as several other of our employees and customers) have some very unusual allergies. For example I have an allergy to Acrylic. But it's more than that... I can't use any fragranced products in my home (that includes almost everything most of us take for granted, bath products, cleaning products, laundry products...). These products flat out make me sick, headaches, burning eyes, and hives are just the start of things.
Until now I've been managing to keep a safe home and dealing with the almost daily headaches that I got at work.
That all changed Wednesday...
This is hard for to admit, but given how busy the shop was Wednesday I'm sure the rumor mill is already going, so better to just explain what happened.
A new customer came into the shop and sat for a while up front chatting. At some point she pulled out a bottle of lotion from Bath and Body Works and applied it to her hands. Less than 2 minutes later I was having difficulty breathing, my eyes and respiratory system felt like I had been forced to breath in gasoline, and my head was swimming. This all culminated in me collapsing behind the counter.
To be honest it's been 2 days and I'm still sick.
I have talked to my Family, friends, and employees and we've decided that we need to make this event public and start a new policy at the shop.
I'm not asking for much, my request is for you to avoid wearing scented lotions and perfumes into the shop.
I know it isn't always possible, but if know that you're coming in later in the day if you can avoid applying those items for at least the couple of hours before you come in that would be a big help.

A Few Other Changes I have a few other changes that you'll notice next time you come into the shop!
The biggest one you'll notice is that we now have the capability to track you're purchases. You'll be asked when you check out if you'd like to be added to our database. We only keep names and don't sell the information. This way when you come in asking for another skein of that purple yarn you purchased 6 months ago we'll be able to say... No Problem!
We also replaced the Ikea Chair that has been sagging more and more over the years. Hopefully we'll all (including me!) be able to back out of our new Poang Chair.
