Greetings!

Wow! Fall is really here. We even have taken a fall leaf tour already. It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that it was nice and warm, then the rain came...
I have this childish urge that I want to finish all my projects now! I'm even starting new little projects so I can get this satisfying
finished feeling. The latest "drive by knitting" was a pair of the ever reliable Fiber Trends felted clogs for Sam. I knit them up with a strand of Malabrigo held with a strand of Shetland Deluxe. Then I proceeded to knit them up in less than 18 hours from start to finish (that's 18 hours real time... not just knitting time).
Now I've moved on to 2 different hats, then to finish some gloves that I started last winter, then onto...? I suppose I'll figure that out when I get there.
Luckily the clogs turned out really well & Sam just loves them.

Do you have any family members who are really feeling the sudden cold? Come in and we can help you pick some instant gratification knitting that will make you feel that great rush of finishing a project & help give some warmth to your family.
Yarn of the Month

Lustra
Berroco
Lustra is a new yarn this fall from Berroco. A shining jewel in the fall line, this single ply Peruvian wool and Tencel blend is a lightweight affordable luxury. With generous yardage and a silk-like gleam, this yarn boasts a striking palette and soft hand.

Lustra also offers fantastic yardage for a good price. At roughly 200 yards per skein (100g) most of us will only need 5-6 skeins for a basic sweater. That means that a sweater will only cost about $50!

Lustra is an even better value over the next month as it's our featured yarn and offered at:
15% off
Oct 16-Nov 16

Plus we have chosen a cute hat pattern that only takes one skein of Lustra and for the next month we'll have a revised version of the pattern available free to anyone who purchases one or more skeins of Lustra.

Yarn of the Month is a program we're bringing back from a few years ago. Each month a new yarn will be featured and offered at a discount with a one skein pattern available for free with purchase. Since we're getting a late start for October the October yarn of the month will be featured Oct 16 to Nov 16. A new yarn will be featured at the beginning of November and at the beginning of each following month.
Knitting Events
Knitting Guild and Melissa Leapman

The Mid-Michigan Knitting Guild has begun it's 2009-2010 meeting season. Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

The next meeting is this Tuesday. We're all bringing in our favorite knitting pattern (bring in the project you've knit & where the pattern can be found). The guild will then compile a list of all our favorite patterns so we have a great reference of good patterns to knit.

The next meeting is also time to bring in your yarn for the guild exchange. Check out the guilds site for info about the exchange.

Melissa Leapman

Melissa Leapman is coming to Rae's Yarn Boutique Nov 7 & 8.

Melissa Leapman is a widely-published designer and has published patterns in every premiere needlecrafts publication in the country. As a freelance designer, she's worked with many leading ready-to-wear manufacturers and design houses in NYC. In addition, over the years, most American yarn companies have commissioned Melissa to create designs to promote their new and existing yarns.

I've taken many classes from Melissa over the years at TNNA and every class has been inspiring and very informative.

She'll be here Saturday and Sunday and will teach 2 classes each day. The classes will be held near Rae's Yarn Boutique (location TBA). Space is very limited in these classes, be sure to reserve your space soon.

Fall Weaving Classes
Beginning to Advanced Rigid Heddle Weaving
2/2 twill weave
Weaving classes have been filling up quick. Why? Weaving is fun! Plus it's a great way to make a dent in your stash and get those Holiday gifts done quickly.
Think you might be interested? Rae makes it easy to try out weaving without a big commitment. Take Rae's Rigid Heddle Weaving class. It meets 3 times and includes the rental of a loom for you to use during your class (yes that means you get to bring it home between classes). At the end of the class you can choose to purchase a loom or not, no pressure.
We were shocked by the rush of people signing up for our current weaving class that started last weekend and have decided to announce the fall weaving class dates early.  So, what do you have to loose?  give weaving a try.

The next round beginning rigid heddle classes will be after the new year. If you're interested please let us know. If you have a specific day and time that would work for you that would be helpful as well. We'll try to accommodate requests for specific class times.

Weaving is taking the knitting world by storm. Why? Mainly it's due to Rigid Heddle Looms. They're portable, can use the same yarn that's already in our stash, they're a loom that's affordable,  and woven fabric has many different qualities than knitted fabric. Ready to give it a try? We'll be weaving 2-3 scarves during this class. The class fee also includes rental of one of the shop looms for the duration of the class, so you can try this new hobby out before taking the plunge on a loom of your own.

Have you already taken the intro class and are ready for more weaving fun?! Try one of our new intermediate/advanced classes on the Rigid Heddle Loom.

Both of the following classes require a rigid-heddle loom with the second set of heddle blocks and a second 10-dent heddle. Please let us know at least 2 weeks before the class if you need us to order in extra parts for your loom.

Remember we have lots of seating now and our open knitting group meets on Thursday nights (6-8). We also are getting a growing group meeting on Sunday from 12-3!
