Greetings!

I hope you're all having a lovely week. Despite the heat last weekend my camping trip was fantastic. Bonus of lots of knitting time. I knit about 2 socks in 3 days!
One was a second sock for Sam, the other was a Rococo Sock in the fabulous Sterling Silver and Silk sock yarn. I love the 3 new multi colors. They are dyed so they don't pool!

This weekend is 4th of July and I'm looking forward to a good dinner and seeing the fireworks. We will be open all weekend for any holiday yarn fixes.

The other new little bit of news is that Ravelry no longer has a waiting list to get in. Simply go to this page, sign-up for an invitation and it will be instantly delivered to your email.

Ravelry is a wonderful tool for knitters and whether you want to use it as a social site, a knitting diary, or simple as the most complete knitting reference out there it is well worth signing up for.

Summer Knitting Events
Knit in Public, Stitch N Pitch, and more....

Rae's Yarn Boutique is once again teaming up with Woven Art to host a variety of summer knitting events.

Stitch 'N Pitch with the Lansing Lugnuts is Saturday Aug 1st
Tickets are $15 and include a ticket to the game and a special knitting bag with goodies from both shops. Plus there's fireworks after the game. Contact either Rae's Yarn Boutique or Woven Art to reserve your ticket.

We're also planning on a knit in at the Great Lakes Folk Festival in August.

We're THRILLED to announce the dates for the 2009 Capitol Area Yarn Shop Co-operative (CAYSC) Shop Hop! Mark your calendars now-the weekend is Thursday, September 17th through Sunday, September 20th (four shops, four days, endless possibilities!).

Passports go on sale Wednesday, August 12th.

More details will be leaked over the coming weeks. Just know that this year's hop will be BIGGER and BETTER than last year's, with several changes, new and fun tidbits, and enhanced goodies.

That's all we're releasing for now, but know that preparations have been underway for several weeks, and all four shops (Rae's Yarn Boutique in Lansing, Woven Art in East Lansing, Yarn Garden in Charlotte, and ThreadBear in Lansing) are all TOTALLY EXCITED about the weekend!

My own project for fall is that the the Knittin' in the Mitten retreat is back. This year it's November 6th - 8th at Shanty Creek and we'll be welcoming Melissa Leapman in to teach.

Summer Class List
Full and Exciting Class Schedule this Summer!

The class schedule from May till August is now available to download from our website or by clicking here.

I have added three new classes to the class schedule...

Indigo Dyeing
Rae $35
July 26             Sunday  3:00-5:00
Indigo dyeing is a rather unique process, quite different from any other common natural dye. We'll be working from a vat that will be reduced the evening before, so we can skip the work and move right to the fun. We'll have wool yarns and silk scarves in shop for you to dye, or bring in a knit or woven piece to dye.

Art Felt 101
Rae $20
Aug 1            Saturday 2:00-4:00
If it's felt, but it's not knit, not needle felted, and not wet felted, then what is it? Art Felt! Art felt is a neat new way to felt. It is much easier to get your finished project the way you want it. Plus it's much less physical work to do. Interested? Come in and we'll make a few small projects to get you going.

Art Felt Scarf
Rae $25
Aug 16         Sunday 12:00-3:00
Art Felt allows us to complete a cool striped multi layered felted scarf in mere hours. We'll make up one of the Art Felt Scarf kits during the class and get it felted in the shop's dryer. These scarves are very cool looking. Come into the shop and we'll show you the one Rae made up and let you choose your kit for the class.

Rae $15
July 21                          Technique Tuesday 6:00-8:00

Rae $45
July 11 & 25  3rd session TBD                 Saturdays 1:00-3:00
The Angel Lace Shawl is easy enough for a first time lace knitter, but gives spectacular results.  Rae will walk you through each step from choosing yarn, deciding on reading the chart or written instructions, binding off loosely enough, and blocking for the final finish.

Magic Loop Toe Up Socks
Rae $45

We explore further options knitting socks with one needle. Expand your sock knitting knowledge with a figure-eight cast-on, short-row toes, and short row heels. Top all that off with a very stretchy crochet bind-off.

Carol H $45

Mitered squares and rectangles fit together in a wonderful afghan. We'll help you choose yarn & colors then get going on this classic Cottage Creations design.

Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving
Rae $60
July 12, 26 Aug 2                        Sundays 12:00-2:00
Weaving is taking the knitting world by storm. Why? Mainly it's due to Rigid Heddle Looms. They're portable, can use the same yarn that's already in our stash, they're a loom that's affordable,  and woven fabric has many different qualities than knitted fabric. Ready to give it a try? We'll be weaving 2-3 scarves during this class. The class fee also includes rental of one of the shop looms for the duration of the class, so you can try this new hobby out before taking the plunge on a loom of your own.

Yarn Dyeing
Rae $40
July 12                                      Sunday 3:00-5:00
Learn to create your own custom yarns! We'll cover some easy methods that you'll easily be able recreate right in your own kitchen using professional color safe dyes. Please remember to wear clothes you don't mind getting stained.

Remember we have lots of seating now and our open knitting group meets on Thursday nights (6-8). We also are getting a growing group meeting on Sunday from 12-3!

Sincerely,
