Greetings!
Happy New Year!
The new year is always a reason to celebrate. A time of new beginnings, and resolutions of things to accomplish.
However 2011 is especially important for us in that it means that 2010 is FINALLY over. We will never forget
"The Year of the Flood". We pumped water out of our lower level for 27 days and 9 months later our lower level is still not back to normal. My reason for mentioning this is not to complain, but as a lead in to a comment many of you have heard me say often. We have the BEST employees. Since the middle of April until last week six of our staff members: Jean Brewer, Kathi Fowler, Sue Cooley, Jim Lockhart, Cindy Ingraham and Mallory Doyle have been working at temporary desks in the shoe department backstock area. Difficult at best, but unfortunately necessary. Thanks to all of them from my business partner, Ed Carney, and me.
We have been busy taking inventories and getting ready for all the things that keep us busy during the winter. Our Winter Workshops have begun and we have lots of great information to present and our buyers are traveling to several trade shows to look at what will be "new" for next fall.
Tickets are currently on sale for our sixteenth showing of the Banff Film Festival. (See article for dates and locations.)
I am very pleased that we have added a new location to our showings, Farmington, CT, to benefit the Farmington Recreation Department. We have shown the Radical Reels films there for two years and they have been received enthusiastically. Those of you who have made this an annual event for friends and family know how enjoyable these films can be. Tell your friends because tickets are already going quickly. Tickets are more expensive at the door and several of the locations are sellouts. Stop in and get your tickets soon
As always we have lots of great happenings in the works at press time. The best way to know what's going on is to check our website www.northcove.com regularly. PLEASE BE SURE TO SIGN UP TO RECEIVE ELECTRONIC NOTICES.
North Cove Outfitters is committed to not only providing you with the best products, but the best in information, education and entertainment. No matter where you go or what you do, please enjoy and respect the outdoors.
Thank you.

Last Newsletter Riddle and Clues
After a random drawing of correct riddle answers, we selected a winner. The winner of our last "Where am I?" contest was Heidi Seaton of Centerbrook, CT.
She correctly identified me standing in front of the Old Newgate Prison in East Granby, CT.
The clues were as follows: My friend, E.A.P. stand for Elvis Aaron Presley. "On lots of occasions, a party he once attended here. The band was rockin'. There was lots of swinging going on". It was the Old Newgate Prison, and the song was Jail House Rock. Thanks to all who submitted entries.
Sorry, but there will not be a "Riddle" in this issue but stay tuned for the next e-newsletter when Norm is back from his travels. He is off thinking of his next "Riddle" and "Clues".

What's Your Warmest Glove?---Mittens.
By J. Brewer~Apparel Buyer We hear this question every winter. We have to answer that question with the same answer and that is mittens. The average mitten is probably warmer than the best gloves on the market. Keeping your fingers in direct contact with one another will keep them warmer than putting them in a glove. We do realize that dexterity is important, so going with a layering system is helpful. By a layering system, we mean, using a liner glove inside a shell or insulated shell mitten. With this system you have the best of both worlds. When you need the dexterity to set up camp, run a camera, get into your boots or help a little one with a zipper you will be able to. Whether you are going to use mittens or gloves there are a few things that you do need to think about. If you are playing in the snow, you need to make sure that you have mittens or gloves that will keep you dry also. A mitten or glove that is made with Gore-Tex or another waterproof material is important. These same membranes are also windproof which will help with keeping your hands warm. If you are driving or having to hang onto something, like a ski pole, it is important to have gloves that have a gripper surface in the palm or are made of leather. The one thing that many people forget to think about when trying to keep their hands warm is their head. Believe it or not, if you put a hat on it really helps to keep you warmer all over. We lose a lot of our body heat through our heads. If we trap that heat with a hat, we will be warmer. North Cove Outfitters carries a complete line of mittens, gloves, hats, balaclavas and scarves from Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, The North Face, Seirus, Outdoor Research, Columbia, Patagonia, Woolrich, Pistil, Trailhead, Turtle Fur and Loki. |

Attention all Duck Hunters Has Your Mo-Jo Lost Its' MOJO? by B. Owens - Shooting Sports

As you know ducks can get conditioned to certain styles of decoys and spreads. Spinning wings on a stationary duck can become stale, and only works with enough wind. But what if you could imitate a totally natural looking movement on calm water with no wind? When swimming or bobbing, ducks will send rings of motion radiating out from their position on the water. This is a natural motion that up until now could only be duplicated by pulling on long strings attached to anchored decoys. That was up until now. Fellow hunters meet Dilbert duck, a remote controlled battery operated bobbing decoy. A large rubber disc suspended below the decoy moves up and down with the aid of a 50 yard on/off remote, sending ripples out and between the other decoys in the set. From the perspective of a flying duck, this appears to be a perfect imitation of a group of live ducks all moving about on the water!
Dilbert was invented by an avid duck hunter that lives in Lyme, CT. From above, Dilbert looks like any other duck decoy, but below the waterline the waterproof keel houses the battery and motor that operates the plunger that moves Dilbert up and down. In addition Dilbert comes complete with a rechargeable battery, 50 yard on/off remote control unit, and 4 hour battery charger. Stop in North Cove Outfitters shooting sports department and check one out!
