Plastic truly comes of age with the Juno chair collection, designed by James Irvine and presented during Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Juno is a practical and elegant design that takes into account what Irvine calls “the best of everything—precision, technology and classic concepts.” Come see three Juno styles here on the SUITE New York showroom floor.

Irvine explains that from the beginning, the concept for the design was to create a one-shot, gas-assisted injection molded chair collection. However, the final product is a far cry from any prior visions of plastic furniture. “Conceptually, this idea is more reminiscent of solid wood construction than of plastic.”

Plastic as a medium allows for a true design freedom unobtainable with other materials. Irvine tackled the fine line between experimentation and practicality beautifully with the Juno collection. “My design process was more about controlling plastic than letting the material dictate the form.”
