The nature of an iconic design demands a product has tremendous staying power. Arne Jacobsen, one of Denmark’s most celebrated design deities, was a pioneer in his time and his products remain some of the most coveted by design aficionados and those who aspire to be. This week, SUITE New York goes back to the beginning, presenting Arne Jacobsen’s stacking chairs in their primary form, wood.

Series 7
Wood is the “original story” for Jacobsen’s Series 7 Chair. Besides being a stalwart in the tradition of Danish furniture, wood truly equals quality. It is durable, ages beautifully and cannot be beaten in terms of strength, weight and sustainability.

Maple, beech, ash, cherry, Oregon pine, elm, oak, walnut and dark stained oak were ultimately chosen for the new veneers. Their depth of color presents hues ranging from the palest whites and yellows to gray-browns, light reds and the blackest browns . There truly is a finish to work within any interior.

Nine new lacquer colors were conceived to match and complement the woods. All of these colors, from a petrol blue to a yellow, sage green and more, were inspired by the original color palette designed by Jacobsen in 1968.

Ant Chair
Both the Ant Chair and the Series 7 Chair are available in each of the nine new wood veneers and nine new lacquer colors. We invite you to revisit Jacobsen’s stacking chair collections in their latest form. You won’t be disappointed.
