� With World War II over, the 1950’s presented an opportunity for the public to re-embrace luxuries frowned upon in war-torn times. The design style we call Mid-Century Modern emerged as architects, urban developers and industrial designers began to utilize technological advances made during the war. The public’s demand for high quality furniture suited for open-plan living generated new criteria by which good design would be judged.� �

ANT CHAIR
The revolutionary Ant Chair, designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1952, was designed to be light, stable and easy to stack. Though initially received with skepticism, the Ant survived and thus catapulted Jacobsen into the vitals of furniture history.�

IMBUTO LAMP
Designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni in 1953, Imbuto is the quintessential floor lamp conceived as tribute to the candle, the progenitor of all lamps. Dominioni likens the lamp to a champagne flute with an upward stream of funneled light.�

PK11 CHAIR
The minimalist PK11, designed by Poul Kjaerholm in 1957, utilizes warm, organic and luxurious leather and ash at those points of the chair in direct contact with the user. The PK11 dutifully attends to the needs of the seated body.�

CATILINA CHAIR
Another design by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Catilina was unveiled in 1957. A ribbon of metal gently curves to form arms and a backrest in a groundbreaking treatment for metal structures. Today, Catalina is considered a milestone in the history of Italian design.�
