The first time we saw George Jetson fold his flying car into a briefcase, we couldn’t wait to see what the future of design might bring. While we are not quite there yet (as far as we know, DARPA), intelligent designs in today’s contract furniture market should be mobile, functional and versatile, with all the sturdiness associated with Jetson-era manufacturing. SUITE New York has recently added to our collection some truly remarkable space-saving products, which combine advanced technology with high quality materials.

Tempest
The Tempest table has a rich history in functional design. Formerly called the Victory table, Tempest’s flip-top and nesting capabilities were designed to accommodate the extreme space-saving requirements of WWII U.S. Navy submarines. The peace treaty between the US and Japan was also signed on a Tempest table. Easy to use and completely secure, its storage mechanisms were masterfully re-engineered in 2009 by KOMPLOT Design. Used in prestigious banks, restaurants, universities, museums, hotels, hospitals, factories and embassies around the world, Tempest is available in a multitude of shapes, sizes and finishes, along with various leg options, power & data components, folding capabilities and accessories. Also available as a lounge or bar table.

Moveo
The designers behind the Moveo table may have been inspired Mr. Jetson’s ride as well. Each having strong roots in auto design, Justus Kolberg and Erik Simonsen strove to create a new generation of flip-top tables using innovative and streamlined components. Only six years in production, Moveo has been specified for an impressive list of contract projects. In 2005, Moveo and its partner chair, Motio, won first prize at Chicago’s “Best of NeoCon” Awards. Available in a wide range of shapes, sizes and finishes, Moveo offers an extensive list of power, mobility and accessory options.

Motio
Designed by Kolberg and Simonsen to accompany their Moveo table, the Motio Conference chair’s functionality is equally impressive. A stackable task chair is not something we see every day. With a simple snap, the task chair’s seat releases, allowing it to nest atop the next. Its upholstered seat is equipped with an ergonomic mini synchro-mechanism. With or without armrests, its base is chrome or polished aluminum. Also available is the Motio Work task chair, a height-adjustable, non-stacking version, as well as stackable cantilever and 4-Leg versions.
