| GGI Principle #4: Evaluate the Environmental Impact of All Activities
|

When your old light bulbs are no longer useable, replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescents (CFLs). This may seem like a small and easy thing to do but it can have a major impact. On www.energystar.gov they note that if every American household replaced just one standard bulb with a CFL, there would be enough energy saved to light more than 3 million homes for a year, cut annual energy costs more than $600 million, and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 80,000 cars.

School News from Rogers, Arkansas

At
Grace Hills Elementary, they are keeping very busy and are getting
their local area to sit up and take notice. In the last several
months, they've been in several newspaper articles, on a TV broadcast
and spoke for their local School Board among other things. What
is making them so popular? The great programs going on at Grace Hills Elementary school! They are getting their local community to sit up and take
notice. The biggest program is their school-wide recycling program.
They have done so well with this specific program that they have been
nominated by their State Recycling Coalition for the "Recycling
Education Program of the Year Award". Great job Grace Hills, keep up
the good work!

Go Green Community Forum Starts Roll Out
|
We are excited to announce that our new online forum has started! We rolled out our first state, New York, several weeks ago and just rolled out the state of Texas at the end of March. We will be continuing to roll out states over the next six months so look for the e-mail telling you that your state is next!
The online forum gives schools an opportunity to share information, ideas and what works/doesn't work specific to their state. But, don't let that stop you from viewing the discussions in other states! You might learn about something new that you can bring back to your community.
If your state has not rolled out yet and you are interested in acting as the "State Site Forum Contact" for your state, please contact Kate Jupina at katejupina@gogreeninitiative.org. We look forward to seeing you all online!
