SPARE (Students Promoting Awareness of Recycling & the Environment) a small but motivated group of high schoolers at Branham High School are making BIG changes in San Jose and beyond.

Here's a peek:

First: They established a school-wide recycling program for cans, bottles, paper, cardboard, ink and toner cartridges, cell phones and E-waste.

Then: They sell those recycled goods to a company in China.

Next: They use the money to plant trees on their campus.

How's that for ingenuity? They have been doing soooo much more. Read on...

Next up... they hope to go solar in a few years and they continue with a campus water conservation audit that has already identified $14K in savings.

Branham High School humbly claims that they recycle more items than any other high school in America. Now there's a challenge for you!!

Treehugger.com features our school of the week on their website. Owned by The Discovery Channel, their website gets 4.7 million page views a month. Read the Treehugger article about Branham High.

If you would like your school to be considered for the "School of the Week", please email Amy Snyder at newsletter@gogreeninitiative.org. Tell us what your school has been doing to Go Green and send along a few pictures of your students "in action." Pictures cannot be larger than 2 MB.
