Let's get those 3/15 Quarterly Progress Reports turned in!  We've already received some but want to know how all of our schools are doing.  Please go online and fill at your report today, it only takes a few minutes!  Murray Elementary School in Dublin, CA turned their report in on time and now they have been nominated to be one of our nationally recognized "School of the Week" recipients.  Murray Elementary not only gave us their waste diversion numbers, they also reported on the different activities going on at their school in the "Additional Comments" section.  These activities included distributing their school newsletter online, hosting a School Beautification Day, teaching about the environment and ecology in their Science Lab and hosting an event to teach students and parents how to make a "No Waste Lunch".  Keep up the good work Murray Elementary!

From 2005 - 2007 we used your QPR information to report the following waste diversion information:

♦ Over 5.3 million pounds of paper
♦ More than 530,000 pounds of cardboard
♦ 60,000 pounds of aluminum
♦ 109,000 pounds of plastic beverage containers
♦ Nearly 15,000 cellular phones
♦ 11,000 printer cartridges
♦ More than 435,000 pounds of mixed recyclables
♦ 80,000 pounds of food waste

 
This translated to our schools avoiding:

♦ 44 billion BTUs of energy use
♦ 2,604 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions
♦ 18,606,000 gallons of water
♦ 1 million gallons of oil
♦ 9,653 cubic yards of landfill space, due to paper recycling alone

This is GREAT information but let's see how much better we can show we're doing by getting as many schools as possible to report their information.  Maybe your school can be our next "School of the Week"!
