Florida State PTA Leaders: Opportunity to Engage with state leaders on Sustainability
Jill

Did you know that the world's largest environmental education program, the Go Green Initiative, started with PTA?

Did you know that 46 Schools in Florida have adopted the Go Green Initiative, and have an opportunity to meet the Founder?

Background: When Jill Buck served as the PTA Council President for Pleasanton, California, she became concerned about the amount waste being generated at her children's schools, and the use of unsafe pesticides around playgrounds in the community. A former Naval officer with experience in recycling programs, Buck decided to take action. As a dedicated PTA leader, she wrote the Go Green Initiative on her kitchen table. Since that time, eight (8) State PTA boards have adopted the Go Green Initiative. The Go Green Initiative operates in 48 U.S. states, Indonesia, Europe, Mexico, and Africa. The program has been endorsed by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), National Recycling Coalition, 8 State PTA's, and many more.

The Go Green Initiative is a grassroots environmental program that unites parents, teachers and students to create a culture of conservation on campus. The program involves students at every level and takes a comprehensive approach to help schools evaluate every aspect of their environmental impact. It provides schools simple options and tools to examine everything from recycling to energy conservation and it is completely FREE to all schools.

Jill is a featured speaker at environmental, and PTA conventions across the country, and has been featured on Martha Stewart Living Radio, Working Mother Magazine, Women's Health Magazine, Ebony Magazine, U.S. Mayor, and Diablo Magazine's "Women to Watch". Jill is one of the nation's leading advocates of free market solutions for environmental protection issues.

We are pleased to announce that the Go Green Initiative's Founder, Jill Buck, will be the Keynote Speaker at Leon County Florida's Climate Action Summit taking place in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, March 28th.  This is a unique opportunity to bring Florida State PTA to the table with leaders from across the state to create a healthy, environmentally safe community for all the children of Florida.   This day long event is a bargain at only $10 so should not be missed.  Along with Jill there will be representatives from Sustainable Florida, Sustainable Tallahassee and other groups who would like to work with the Florida State PTA.  Please visit www.leoncountyfl.gov/growinggreen  for more information and to register. Conference organizer, Leigh Root, can help with hotel arrangements, and can be reached at: 850/606-5317.
