GP parkThe environmental program at Grand Prairie High School is as big as Texas. 

 
Their AP Environmental Science  class has been paving a green path of environmental stewardship since 1998.
 
This year's APES Class of '08 have put together a Gophers-Go-For-the-Green Challenge! 
 

Some of the Gopher challenges are: 

    1.) Completion of the Green-In At GPHS Lobby Beautification Project that was the creation of the Class of 2002.  During the recent Thanksgiving break, several seniors devoted 2 days of their vacation preparing the walls of a bricked area that will be home to a waterfall and a green space complete with plants, natural rock boulders, and a spotlighted tile mosaic of the school mascot.  GP trash pickup

 2.) They are proud of the fact that their school alone has been responsible for diverting 120,000 lbs of paper, 2,400 lbs of cardboard, 200 lbs of plastic, and 319 printer cartridges away from landfill.

 3.) Maintenance and Preservation of a 4.3 acre fleece jacketsriparian area, which is  their certified (Natl. Wildlife Federation) Schoolyard Habitat.  It is officially known as: GPHS Wetland Preserve & Outdoor Learning Area

4.) Trained the entire student body on the implementation of a food scrap program whose composition is shipped to a local composting facility.
