Go Green Initiative's School of the Week:
Richmond Street Elementary
El Segundo, CA

Richmond Street's school librarian got back to nature when she "became" a tree during the school-wide tree-planting assembly. Their tree planting is just one of many reasons that Richmond Street Elementary School in El Segundo, CA is our "Go Green School of the Week."
This school has been "going green" in a big way! Not only are they recycling paper, cans and bottles, and batteries but they are making their campus green with trees.
They planted twenty-three trees and twenty shrubs. All 500 students were given a Tree in a Box so they could plant a tree seed at home.
And what else is happening...
- They monitor their monthly energy usage. Auto-shutdowns were installed on all computers and teachers are reminded to unplug all equipment over the weekends.
- The student Green Team has created No Trash Tuesdays in hopes that parents will send lunches that have no or limited trash. They will be monitoring these days to evaluate their program. They also are recycling batteries from the school community.
